Up again since I've seen two posts in the last two days with y-pipes falling off.

I don't recommend red loctite either. Ever try to get those off in a pinch? No thanks. It does work well....just too well for my liking.

when mine came loose on my 03 i replaced them all with 05 bolts and use new gaskets too.... no problems after that.... when it comes time to remove them ill struggle a bit .. but thats better then rattling out....

Just put some on my y-pipe today. No loctite is needed.

Not cheap though. I think a bag of 25 washers was $10 at Fastenal.

Here's the link to the S-K 5mm ball end wrench you'll want to have to take off those bolts.

Is there a reason you chose the long ball hex? I have the standard hex 5mm socket. Will that work?

My sled is 220 miles away and there are few tool stores so I have to buy first. I guess I could just buy the round hex and put that in my 5mm hex socket?

Just wondering why you like the round hex.

You need the long ball end so you can get in there. The reason for the ball end is you can't get a "straight" shot at the heads of the bolts, the y-pipe it self is in the way

I removed the y pipe heat shield also (seemed to give a bit more clearance for the tools). I used a hand held allen wrench with the "ball" on the long end. Snaked a box wrench on the short end for leverage. I used blue loctite with no issues, but I like the washer idea.
Edit: I used the boxed end of a box end / open end wrench ................ I'm bored!

rev baron, I work for a turbocharger manufacturer and we use the same type of lock washer to keep our turbo's from coming apart at high temp and vibrations. What I would like to let you guys know is that out factory in switzerland just sent out a memo to all the service engineers that the torque value must be increased when using verbus discs (what the swiss call fancy lockwashers). We were having problems with the bolts backing out. It seems that the torque needs to be higher to overcome the increased friction under the bolt head. I dont know how much to increase the torque for such a small bolt but our torque specs were increased about 40% when using verbus discs. Just thought I would let you know. Mike

What size are these washers? Anyone have a part number from Fastenal? Are you guys taking the pipe off to get at these bolts because I just checked last nights and mine are all loose but can't see how you get to the bottom bolts.

Thanks

I removed the heat shield and got to them.
