I've been researching this helmet and have read most of the threads on it, What I'm looking for mostly is what balaclava people are wearing with it and what's working the best? I myself will be wearing it for high speed trail riding, I don't overheat or sweat a lot when I'm riding. Lets hear some opinions. Thanks

I bought the one made for the helmet...

Works fine for me trail riding, probably any will work just as well if the face opening is similar. I haven't rode in really cold weather yet (5 degrees or colder approximately), which is my concern with this helmet. Gonna carry this (burglar) knit type one, right over top over the other, which covers up the cheek bones better. I do recall getting a bit cold there before.

I bought the Klim artic thinking I would use that, but felt claustrophobic in that with the helmet on..JMO. Never actually tried that setup, returned it the next day. (Might have worked with the muzzle off....never thought to try that !)

Your post really got me thinking, gonna grab another type like this and try it out, warm breathe may get in the goggles though with the muzzle up.

All plugs removed, forehead skirt installed, chin skirt removed, klim open face balaclava it covers the chin, 210 backcountry googles with beak on (they have less foam compared to trail version) with photo changing lens. Rock solid been using it for 2 seasons in temps +5 to -25. Close muzzle vent when really cold. I also use the rubber deflector on the muzzle part not the neoprene one.

I tried the Klim Arctic last season and felt claustrophobic as well. Plus I feel it fogged easy with this balaclava. Went with the open face Klim the rest of last year and it worked good.

This season I bought the CKX Titan balaclava and CKX Maverick which can be worn over the nose, over the mouth, with the chin dropped or as a neck gaiter. I tried on the Titan Titan balaclava and it felt extremely tight on my face and I have a narrow head. Maybe it will loosen up over time.

I haven't had a chance to try the two new balaclavas actually while riding but I will report back after next week's trip to the UP.

I do have to say me and buddy love these helmets. So nice to just drop the mouth guard when stopped to have a drink or chat.

A question for those with the CKX Titan - do you have to use their "210" goggles? Can the "posts"/mounts be removed? I am considering one for trail riding Northern Wisconsin and the UP, but am wondering if this helmet works on cold - 0 degrees F or colder - days?

-22c the other day and the wife was fine in hers. The posts can be removed. The helmet is actually supposed to include a regular goggle strap but for some reason its not in most, a call to them is all it takes if you want it.

What face mask does she use? I have this lid and think the wife would like it but get a little to much air on my forehead.

The wife has been using this helmet for 3 years. After trying multiple set ups she likes the normal style balaclava that doesn't cover the nose and mouth.
Which makes sense, the whole idea is to be able to drop open the mouth guard area to talk, eat, drink, or smoke...right?

I bought one for me and after about 300-400 miles I like the Klim Arctic Extreme balaclava. It works well, but going to try a typical bala.
