Looking for some feedback from folks who have opted for the 1.5 Ice Ripper track.

I am purchasing a Renegade 850 and am struggling between the 1.25 Ripsaw track which I will stud (2 studs per window) and the prestuded 1.5 option which I will not stud. I understand the difference on ice (nothing can compare to actual studs) and I understand the risks of stud tearout but looking to understand is the differences between the two setups on hard packed trails - hole shot, stopping and top end speed?? Any feedback out there would be helpful.

Many thanks

The 1.5 hooks well .Seems to also mph well .
I agree - was surprised at how well it corners in the ice. Like many others have said it doesn't hook like studs in certain conditions, but it does work good in the corners and braking. We have one on the 2020 XRS with 3000 miles on it that looks great. I only have about 600 on mine and it looks new still. My son's 2020 TNT 850 with the 1.25 IRXT is a little looser as expected so I would definitely get the 1.5 as in certain conditions you get great hook with it.

I've read all the reports about the track ripping lugs off etc after no too many miles...makes me wonder if it is a quality control issue with manufacturing. I'm not kind to mine no matter what the conditions and this year has been nasty at times.

I will say the Hook on the 1.5 and 1.6 was great and I do miss that. But the tracks just dont hold up. I did get both of mine warrantied. But after talking with doo many times, and camso. I wont be putting anything taller than a 1.25 on a G4 chassis again. Camso blames it on heat exchanger design, and clearance issues. Not sure i buy that 100%, as i doo feel there is a quality issue going on with all camso tracks in general. But for me and what I have seen out of the taller lug tracks as of late, I will stick to the 1.25s and see what happens.

I have the 1.5 IR on 21 gade with 96 1.875 Stud Boy Power Point Plus single ply studs. 1500 miles on it and track and studs look like new and it really hooks up nice. Best track on snow I've ever had. 1.25 may be better on lake/ice, but how many of your miles ridden are on ice?

I love mine on my 2020 MXZ XRS 850. Great breaking and acceleration. Can be somewhat pushy in corners comparted to a 1.25, but I think the braking and acceleration make up for it.

I will never run studs again, too many heat exchanger issues. While ICE series tracks cannot compare to traditional studs, I think they do a great job and I prefer the extra looseness in fast trail cornering.

I'm quite hard on my tracks, and after almost 7000kms, low snow this year, I finally had one lug rip off. Not sure I would blame the track versus low snow, rocks and my riding style.

Some comment on decent top speed. This is the slowest top end sled I've owned, after a series of RevXS 800 XRS's with 1.25 tracks. It was my feeling that the extra lug height and tall front end of the G4 XRS was killing top end. I believe a lot of that is the track and gearing. But again, I wouldn't trade the acceleration for a faster top speed.

Ice storm. 1.5" center 1.25" on outside.

3000+ miles on it between my 19 and now it's on my 21.

Have friends running 1.75 on g4 renegade XRS problem free. Seems odd you have had multiple issues with multiple tracks. 1.6 was a bit of a dud but 1.5 seems to be holding up well.

For what it's worth after my sled sets up when parked I slam the rear up and down via bumper and always back up 5 feet first to clear the broken off ice out before riding away.

1.6" Ice Cobra on my '19 Gade XRS 850 (96 perf stud stars up middle) and 1.5" IR XT on my '21 Gade XRS 850 (96 perf stud stars up middle). Both tracks have held up extremely well and I am skeptical af on the larger lug tracks holding up for long term durability. But, so far so good.

The traction is fantastic and materially different when you ride in powder or ungroomed trail vs a 1.25". I also noticed a bit more running board vibration with the 1.5/1.6 vs the 1.25. And I also promise you a lose in top end by a few mph with the taller lug track regardless of gearing/clutching. The taller lug does seems to ever so slightly push the sled a bit more in aggressive corners as well. But overall, I do like the direction of the 1.5/1.6 for trail use.

All depends on what you want to do with the sled and how you want to ride.

Ya I did consider the storm for this sled. And that was suggested by camso. As a side note, camso told doo to not use the 1.5 IR on this chassis, due to tunnel clearance issues, and no tested or RnD on the track before production last year. And that is the exact reason they got rid of the 1.6. Doo hoped the stiffer lug 1.5 would solve the issues, well it didnt. You will always have good and bad with anything. In my experience its the wrong track for this chassis, and or the tracks arent made like they use to be. And yes I am well aware to break up and remove ice from my tunnel! Not a rookie here. And like I said both tracks were warrantied by doo. So take out of it what you want. But again for me and my experiences of my sleds and the issues i have seen others have. I will stick to short lugs on this chassis.

I will now say that if you are primarily a trail rider, stick with a 1.25" track, especially one ply pre-studded ones. I put on an Ice Storm 1.5" 2 years ago and the track is done after 6000km! I'm missing about 10 lugs and most of the paddles are permanently "leaning/tilting" backwards due to the soft lugs. Quite disappointed in this track.

soft lugs, and no clearance in the front of the tunnel causes this. Just a slight bit of ice build up and your beating the lugs off of it, and the worst part is, the ice isint where you can see it or even get to it to remove it. again 1.25 only on the G4 for the trail guys who want durability. Anything taller and your flirting with this very issue.

You are the only ONE I have ever heard getting new track from BRP - Camo under warranty 1.6 or 1.5 ice

Let me be the odd ball here. I agree with all the comments here for the most part. Where I am the odd ball, I really liked my Ice Cobra's 1.6. I have over 5,000 miles on that track with no issues. I have a 1.5 IR on my 21 XRS 850(1,200 miles so far)and it does everything I need as expected. I prefer the Cobra because the lugs are not quite as hard as the Ice Ripper. The Cobra lugs actually flex more which I feel provides more bite through what I would describe as a finger flicking action. In loose snow they are better then the harder lug of the Ice Ripper. The one disadvantage of the Ice Cobra is there are only 2 "studs" per row where the Ice Ripper has 4 'Studs" per row. So, if you refuse to run traditional like me then the Ice Ripper will offer you more stopping power on ice than the Cobra. Just my two cents here. I ride northern Wi mostly and usually have plenty of snow on the trails minus the beginning of this year. Cheers!

I agree with your take on the 1.6. I had that on my 16 xrs and loved it. almost 5000 miles on it, and only showed normal wear. Really was a great track, and thats why I got it on my 19

I had a 1.25" IR replaced under warranty on my 2018 850X, 2020 XRS 850 1.5" IR dealer found missing lug on trade in and was getting it replaced. My 2019 850X with the 1.6"IC looked perfect when I sold that sled to my buddy and all riding conditions were similar those three seasons.

My favorite track by far is the 1.5"IR, thing hooks well and corners predictably.
