Hey guys,
I have a 2014 Ski-Doo 800 XM these days and ever since new I have noticed the engine compartment gets much much oilier than any of my previous sleds. I have the aluminum oil reservoir insert so my engine oil is not leaking. I tracked it down to the chaincase vent tube as it does not have any sort of checkvalve on it. So in the event of a roll over whether it be intentional to get unstuck or unintentional any time the sled ends up on it's hood, on it' side or rolled completely over a bit of chaincase oil comes out this breather tube. It then coats damn near everything on the muffler side of the sled and I think it may have even contributed to melting my stater last year as the oil found it's way down there as well. All labor and parts for this repair was covered under warranty.
So I guess my question is does anyone else experience this and has anyone found a fix for this? My BRP mechanic told me I may have been overfilling the chaincase but the last couple times I have let the oil seep out of the check level plug until it stops flowing out but it never helped the issue any. I am using amsoil chaincase oil but this shouldn't matter as any oil would work it's way out this breather tube I'm sure.
I think I'm going to put one of those motocross fuel tank breather valves on it and see what happens as this would still allow air in and out but not liquid out.
Thanks in advance for any comments or advice!
