Not all pucks are created equal too. Especially comparing early pb80s with newer. Need to get a cheap scale for accurate comparos, plus you should equal all 3 blocks anyway for smoothest operation. How many pucks are you using to get to 8900 RPM? 8? I have 9 in mine with a Gates belt and 8400-8500 RPM is about the best I get at 99.5 MPH on GPS, I tried 8 but lost a belt that day, I think it caused more clutch/belt heat, I've since did a ton a venting and went back to 9 pucks the way I got it from Bill and it's been fine. If I recall I put a used 391 belt on one day and saw an RPM increase to 8600-8700 with the 9 pucks so belt has some influence for sure.
To compare setups:ok got it....same deal as me exactly......except im running 168 studs.
Hopefully you balanced them? IMO this is why you see spring cups broken on these pb80's. 0.5g is a big imbalance.I did weight them, my pucks were within a few tenth's of gram of each other, running the Cudney set up, was installed new in 2017, black primary, silver secondary, Cr9 helix, gates carbon cord belt per bills recommendation.
9 pucks weight
99.4 g
99.8
99.3
8 pucks was
93.8
94.1
93.7

Weight of the pucks, what spring in the primary?
What spring in the secondary?

Nickski said......I put a 700/1300 in my pb80, Dalton 50/44 helix with a Dalton red spring. Did not have this setup before winter was over (everything was stock) and am looking forward to trying this out this winter. Have had multiple Cudney setups and wanted to try something different.
Nickski said.....For higher engagement put a CVTECH 1151-1133 spring in it. You'll be in the 3100-3300 rpm range on engagement.
I do..... special order from great white north distributing. :dance:But I've been told by a good source that you've got a special ground secondary spring that you just can't buy off the shelf so that'll be hard for others to replicate :blush_old:

How did this work out for you?I put a 700/1300 in my pb80, Dalton 50/44 helix with a Dalton red spring. Did not have this setup before winter was over (everything was stock) and am looking forward to trying this out this winter. Have had multiple Cudney setups and wanted to try something different.
This is good news. We got a kit with a PB80 and a Dalton helix. Apparently the previous owner had Cudney consult on this for him and it worked good. I was just really looking for feedback and you sure helped!! Thank you.I think it works well. Pulls hard and back shifts well. Not as much "engine" braking as a previous Cudney setup so it glides/rolls a bit more which I like. When you let off it still has "engine" braking but just not as much. 98.7 g in the pb80 and is turning 8600 rpm consistently. 5000km on my belt and it still looks brand new and clutch surfaces are nice and clean with next to no belt dust anywhere.
I believe it's the 50/44Just curious.. what helix did you get from Dalton?
