Which Tunnel Protectors?

'19 Renegade X, has the stock Ripsaw, I'll be using the 1.325" Woodys.

In the book there are 2 choices for tunnel protectors.

Option 1, part # 860201280 says "Rev Gen4 w/ Ice Ripper track or Woodys studs". No mention of 129" or 137" but thats what I have - a G4 with Woodys.

Option 2, part # 860201692 says Rev Gen4 w/ 137" Ice Cobra or Ice Attack XT track. Mine is a 137" but doesn't have those track options.

Looking at the sled and the directions, it looks like option 1 should work - and it's a lot easier to install. Is it safe to assume it covers both 129" & 137" sleds?

If I have to do the disassemble and put in Option 2 I will. If Option 1 will work I'd be happy with that.

Thanks.

Both kits have the same rear lengths for both 129” & 137”. The 692 kit comes with forward extension pieces in addition to the front center protector (you may already have from the factory). The extensions were installed on the taller lugged pre-studded tracks like the IC 1.6. I studded my ripsaw and wanted the additional protection with the extensions, so I installed the 692 kit, and it’s definitely more work. If you don’t already have the front center protector from the factory, you’ll have to remove your driveshaft.

The front one is there. The 280 kit looks like a 10 minute install.

The 692 kit looks like it would take hours.
Do the bigger kit. Went through this with my dealer, sore subject. I asked for tunnel protectors, they installed the back section one when they installed my track I dropped off with the same studs you're installing. I was pissed, not knowing just assuming they were one set full length... and I was wrong.

Drop your skid, drill out one rivet in that center forward protector, slide the tunnel protectors over it and finish install. Then reinstall the skid. Believe you can do it this way. Only thing is you have a rivet floating around under your gas tank... as they recommend to lift the tank to not punch a hole in it. Just drill the head off carefully, then use a punch to push it through imo.

Did you have just the 96 studs or more?

Unfortunately I have Quick Adjust, dropping the skid isn't a simple job.

If I need to drop it I will. If I can avoid it better yet!
I had 135 in it, but made the mistake of running a woodys pattern that had a bunch right in the middle. Same pattern and track I ran on my 16 XRS, well there wasn't a center forward protector on the XS chassis like there is on the G4. Well it chewed the hell out of it. I pulled the studs from the center, at 120 now, and installed a new center protector and the full set that you see in the picture.

I just do not feel good without a full set in there.

There were threads about exactly this a few months ago and the second option was to require the tank to be lifted as well.
Option 1 does the trick but a few stated option 2 does it a bit better.
Asked at my dealer and they had heard if people using the 692 but they had only installed 280's.
I put the 280 in my 137 with 144 1.375 Powerpoints and seems fine.
You'll have time for a beer in that 10 minutes.
2 screws and 2 rivets

There was no reason for BRP to make studding or track swaps this complicated, confusing and potentially problem-some.

It is my understanding that IF you are using the BRP approved Woody's stud kits in the pre-marked holes only, you can get away with the "short" kit. I, however, personally would want the added protection of the "long" kit.

This is a huge annoyance to me about the REV Gen4; this whole business with long and short heat exchanger / tunnel protectors and installing the "long" version being half a day project is ridiculous, IMO. This is a poor design and concept; there should be one set/unit per track length that provides total protection and that can be easily added as on a REV XP/XR/XS. What was wrong with a slot where they could be easily slid in without pulling the skid and driveshaft? Especially considering that most sleds sold are "in-season" models off the showroom floor. Obviously, a large number of these get studded or ICE tracks. That and considering that half of the dealers (not to mention Joe Customer who just wants to add studs) are still not aware of the difference or what units should be installed with studs or certain ICE tracks.

Add this to the list of engineering blunders or at least a head scatcher - and then they act as if this was some improvement: "So unique it's patent pending."
