Sorry the topic was supposed to say " What type of boots/caps do you all use for the heated cord end when not in use?" but I wasn't paying attention before I entered, sorry for that.

Ok, I am trying to find some kind of "Cap/Boot" to go over my heated cord end when I am not using my heated shield on my helmet, any thoughts or ideas others of you might have used? I would like to clean it up a bit if I can other than just leaving it exposed to the elements and being I have it hooked up direct to battery, I am not sure its a great idea letting the weather be exposed when I have to believe there is a cap/boot that would work perfectly? I know the BRP set up comes with a cap, might look into that later on for me sled, but the wife's 2005 not so sure it is as easy a hook up as it is on the newer models? Any thoughts or ideas would be great, Thanks.

I'd find something else to worry about other than that. I never had a problem with the plug on my shield. Just make sure that the ends are clean when you plug it in.

My 05 has a cap for the sled plug. And on the helmet I dont worry about it, just blow it out before I plug it in.

Maybe a vacuum cap?

That's a great idea, Thank you. It would at least clean it up a bit, which is what I am looking for. Sorry I like things to look like it was supposed to be there and not like an after thought? Thanks for the great idea.

Here's 1,000 of 'em for sale on Amazon...haha

Do you have an inline fuse on it, coming directly off of the battery?
The FXR helmet I bought came with it, so for now that's the setup I have installed. I read and it seems a lot of riders have it set up to come directly off the battery? Is that not a good idea? I have never had an electric shield before, so for me this is all new. My wife had it on her 2005, but that sled had a cigarette plug adaptor, but it only seemed to work half the time and I got tired of trying to deal with the wire, figure a direct battery hook up was the best option, but did all this during the off season. Haven't actually used them yet?

Go to Lowes, hardware Isle, in the specialty hardware draws, find these Yellow Plastic Screw Protectors. I bought these to protect the Male and Female ends of the Stress cord that's plugs into the sleds port when not in use, as well as the coiled cord ends. It will keep snow and water out. They fit nice and snug, and they're Skidoo Yellow too!

I also put an adhesive snap near the RCA Stress Cord so the stress is not on the Sleds RCA port. The plastic caps I mentioned would slip over the stress relief cord end I show in the picture.

You should have an extra lead under console that is power and ground for heated shield, at least on the 2005

Another tip- The ski doo RCA power kit when you install uses the black storage cap also as the threaded fitting/nut that holds the RCA plug through the dash (as well as holding the ground wire on the backside of dash). If the storage cap gets loose or the plastic threads that hold it all together get loose... You WILL lose power to your shield or it will be intermittent (loose ground on backside).

Easy fix- Go to Lowes & buy a coaxial cable outlet & rob the nut off of it. That nut is the same thread as the RCA outlet on your sled. Remove the black plastic storage cap & use the steel coaxial nut to tighten it all through the dash...

Then use the 90 degree short adapter as shown in post #7, up to you if you let hang (that's what I do) or the mod as he has shown... If you use the steel coaxial outlet nut it will remove most issues that will arise from that crappy plastic cap/nut Ski Doo provides in the kit....

Unplug from the sled, not from the helmet.

If you unplug from the helmet and the cord drops down and hits metal, it will blow the fuse.

That's great information and one I was wondering about. I've read several that come directly off the battery, but worried about "Other" issues that could come up.

Awesome inside information, thank you.
