Trail legal can for my 4-TEC 1200 Renegade

I have a '16 Renegade Adrenaline 4-TEC 1200 that I love.

I'd really like to swap out the behemoth stock can for a lighter one but need to stay legal on the trail.

Any recommendations?

Thanks.

Most guys with 1200's have the stock muffler modified, no weight savings, but boost in H.P. and a little more of a growl. Most after market exhaust silencers are cans and have a raspy sound and are loud.

What is legal depends on where you ride.

Some states are stock only, some are nothing that makes the sled louder, some are must meet a dB requirement, usually the SAE standard.

What you should do is; your best not to get more trails closed.

Exhaust mufflers need volume to work. shrinking them makes them noisier.

lurker is right, everyplace is different but I will say that around where I ride, Vermont,New Hampshire, Maine, and Quebec, there probably is no legal aftermarket can. If it is not what the sled came with is not good. different enforcement in different places but if they want to be dicks its stock or ticket. This year someone I know had the accessory brp exhaust on his maverick side by side and he still got a ticket in New Hampshire. I would say if you must have a change than a modified stock can would be you safest bet, but don't get to crazy or it wont meet db limits.

Good point about "best to not get trails closed"
Excess exhaust noise is a big issue & touchy one because so many people think we should have the right to modify as we see fit.

Here in WI you can run straight pipes on your hog, but they just LOOK at your sled & if it has aftermarket you're going to get a ticket.
(No db tester needed)
Most guys don't mind a little bit snappy, but there's always going to be the guy who overdoes it & wrecks it for the masses.
Loud pipes are annoying, more so to older people who often own the land we're begging to run trails through.

I put one on my 2016 & knew immediately I wasn't running it so I sent my stock muffler in to be modded

Anyone try the new mbrp can?
I have one on mine and its just a little more of a Rumble at all speeds. I can ride all day at various speeds with out any Droning effect. Most guys just say they notice the sound when it first starts up its a little Deeper sound.
