I am considering buying a 2009 GTX Ltd. 1200 with about 1800 kms for $8500 (Canadian). I am moving on from a Firecat f7 because my kids love to go snowmobiling with me. Ski-doo employees say i will be very impressed with the speed, torque and handling of this machine. I expect it to be a lot different, although I'm still looking a some good speed and pulling power. Was there any concerns with the reliability of this engine and year? Should I be looking at the 600 e-tec instead?
Any advise would be appreciated...thanks.

No time to go into details, 2 questions, same answer to both: No.
Advice: Ride safe & enjoy.

The group I ride with are pretty much all F8's. This thing will out perform them no problem, through the trail and topened. Not braggin'didn't think it would hang with them except maybe tight trails when I decided to go with it, just wanted a good reliable sled to enjoy. I was tired of the two stroke issues. They all have rode it and were more impressed with it than me.

Some more advice:
1st priority - Get the 6.9 pilot skis (with added carbide on the outside edge)
2nd priority - Studs
3rd priority - Only if you anticipate riding in hard packed conditions; get the radiator & fan kit.

If that sled is from the Snowmobile Superstore in Toronto than have a really good look over the sled. Almost all were rental machines that had hard lives and sat outside year round. I looked at a black 09 GTX 1200 with similar milage for the same price and it was not treated well, not junk, but not in great shape. I did notice some of the 1200's had the rad/fan kit installed which is good and bad. It's good because it saves you time and money to install but it also means that sled likely had overheating issues and the damage has already been done.

As far as GTX's go, I'd recommend installing a set of pilot 5.7s or 6.9s if you want to ride aggressive. It will handle fine and be just as fast as the sport sleds, it's the same chassis with a softer shock callibration. Rear springs may be a bit stiff for solo riding.

I would have to agree... there is a reason that the sleds there are cheaper -- you will get what you pay for.... as bulletproof as 4 strokes are, overheating is no good for anything... I know it may be $1000, but for that $1000 or so you should be able to find what you want that has had one mature owner, mint, probably already have the extras, etc... if you want the 1 1/4 track take a look at the Renegades, they come with it stock.... I will say that I think you will be overly impressed with the handling of any skidoo you choose if coming from an f7. As far as pull, you will be amazed the difference that the extra 2 strokes make!! Maybe not all the balls out top end, but will pull with anything to 80 mph+.... good luck in ur hunt.... I am a 1 1/2 hr from Toronto, if you want pm me your email adress and I will keep an eye out down here..... Good luck, excellent choice!!
