Relocated Heated Shield (RCA) Fuse Location

The location of the 5 amp fuse for the heated shield plug is ridiculous to get to if it should ever blow, as you have to remove the hood to access it. While I had the hood off, I relocated the fuse down by the coolant tank, by using a ATM fuse holder extension I found at Princess Auto. It plugs right into the original ATM type mini 5 amp socket up under the steering post, and extends 12" to a standard size ATC/ATO fuse. Now I don't have to remove the hood for access. BTW--I cut the extra lead off of the extender. (Sled is a 2016 Blizzard 800 etec)

Second Pic-- Extension Plugged-in at 5 amp socket

Third Pic-- Relocated near coolant tank with standard ATC/ATO type 5 amp fuse (with cover open) I used adhesive backed Velcro to fasten it to the side of the ECM

Excellent idea UltraARider!!!!

I was thinking about doing this to both my Enduro's so thanks for a good way to accomplish this! My 2015 Adrenaline backup sled has it on the right side by the coolant bottle because the outlet is mounted on the right side and it is easy to access the fuse. This change will make the 2016 and 2017 sleds just as easy.

Thanks!

Excellent idea and solution! Any USA sources for this? Can't seem to locate any. It's over $16 for shipping from Princess. :eek:hmy_old:

Hey Judge, if there are no USA sources, we could get 4 to lower the per pc shipping since you are nearby.
I'd go for that.....

I was going to do some searching and see what I can find.

I also go to Canada in business now and then so I might be able to pick them up for us next time I'm there.

Will let you know!

This is a smart idea!

The main issue is that the fuse needs to be accessible on the side of the trail, which it is NOT from the Ski Doo factory! @BRPCare are you listening? :p

I took the top off of my 2017 REV-XS Grand Touring 1200 SE and simply routed the face shield power fuse over the top of the air intake tube so it's accessible on the left side of the sled simply by opening the left door panel. This way I didn't have to order any extra parts. There was enough slack in the cables to do this easily, you may have to untangle the wire harness a bit.

You can see the original fuse holder and the fuse hanging there to the right of the air intake circled in red.

With the door panel closed it's visible and easily changed on the trail. I also used a nylon zip tie to hold the fuse to the tube there so it won't flop around or get lost.

The extra black wire you see going over towards the seat (and the blue wire taps) are the connection to my 'Ride Lite').

The main thing is this fuse needs to be accessible!

It's nice to see everyone's solution to this. I think BRP should make this accessible on the side of the trail from the factory. Burying it under the covers is NOT a good idea at all!

The fuse in the factory installed location caused me to have to ride 20 miles in -12F weather with my face shield open once as we couldn't locate the fuse. Later finding it and seeing how it was buried under the panel, it would have been a tough fix on the side of a trail in -12F weather when the wind was blowing 20 MPH even if I had known where this fuse was located!

Now that I can access this fuse, I also carry spare 5A fuses. ;)

Don't meen to bust your chops but you ripped on brp because of where they mount a fuse. yet you pierce a factory wire harness with a scotch lock. that is a real no no . that is a problem waiting to happen. Sorry had to say something.

No, I didn't do this original install. Either the installing dealer or the previous owner did this install. But thanks for mentioning it.

If it ever fails. I'll replace the shield harness which is separate from the main sled harness and probably get a Y adapter (DOO sells them).

The rip on BRP was to hide a fuse under the panel where you can't access it without disassembling the top of the sled. This fuse needs to be accessible.

I run a few things off the visor fuse. I have a "Y" for the visor and heated place that go into my handlebar bag. My dealer also installed he 12V plug in my glove box an double USB into my handlebar bag. My dealer changed the main fuse from a 5 amp to a 15amp fuse. Before today's ride I wanted to test charging a power bank battery off the 12 V in my glove box, while using my handlebar bag USBs one for my phone and one for another battery bank. When I was just letting the sled run to warm up (it was -22C this morning), when I plugged in my Oxygen helmet, I saw that the helmet fuse was blown. I figured I overloaded the power to these auxiliaries. I verified that the 7.5 amp auxiliary fuse on the right side of the sled *throttle side" which was easy to get to and inspect was blown. I replaced that fuse (mini fuse) I removed the battery power bank from the glove box 12V, and will not use that plug EVER, and only used the USB plugs in my handlebar bag. I plan to remove the heating plate that is connected to the visor plug with a "Y" because the heater plate does nothing to keep the contents of my handlebar bag warm. I keep my camera in there and a freshly charged battery was dead from the cold in an hour. I got it to take 1 picture b4 it shut off.

Does anyone know the maximum power I can draw if the main fuse behind the clutch is a 15amp and the auxillliary fuse on the right side is a 16amp or 20amp?
I will likely just use;
1. Heated visor plug for Oxygen helmet
2. USB to charge my phone (I stream music via Bluetooth to my communicator so the phone is constantly being charged)
3. Charge a portable battery pack to use if my helmet communicator runs out of power. I would remove the charged battery pack from the handlebar bag and put it in my jacked. I don't want to have my helmet communicator plugged into my handlebar bag on my sled. I don't think i's smart or sage to ride with a wire going from my helmet to my bag on my sled.

Thanks

Charging the 800mah-1100mah cell phone battery is no big deal. Charging a 8000-12000mah battery pack can be a much bigger drain. You could wire some of your accessories to the battery, (solenoid) and with careful use you would be OK.

Bringing this back around again.

Has anybody found these in the US yet? Prince Auto now shows with a splitter wire attached that I don't want and my eBay search found them 26 inches long.

Judge64 Did you find these and if so did you get a MFG. name?
