Glad I didn't snowcheck my new gade 800etec back country yet! A buddie of mine just snow checked the new poo assualt 144 spring order special. What a killer sled!

It comes in at 500 bucks less than the doo too!
Anyone else jump or jumping ship?

144" or not.it's only 15 inches wide and 1.352" lug.the doo backcountry will go places the poo will only dream of.besides the poo's 800 is a joke.i think doo needs an xrs renegade with a 16"x1.5" track.now that would be one hell of a crossover sled.

we all could sit here a debait back and forth who has the best sled and motors. i say to each their own but one thing that is a fact skidoo reminds me of honda they don't make the biggest or the fastest they don't claim to have the biggest horse power motors but one thing they do have is smooth rides and reliabilty they make stuff that runs and runs awesome when you going outside and hop on your machine there is no doube that it gonna work the same can't be said for other makes jmo

The biggest draw Skidoo still has is MPG...Economy. The new 2-stroke motors from Doo and Poo haven't been anything to hang their hats on. Even some of the life long Doo guys are, giving up the "Light-Weight" and heading for a more reliable 4-stroke power plant. Hard to believe that after nearly 50 years of building 2-stroke snowmobile motors.....nobody can seem to get it right!

you should get the edition of american snowmobiler it has a hole artical in there on how doo spent years developing the etec and how it was the wave of the future and how other manufactors will soon make a motor similer to the etec and as far as gas mileage gose my 800 p tek was getting the same mpg's as by brother and good friend were getting on there 4 stoke yammy's (03 rx1 and 07 attak) as far as reliabilty gose 99% of the time the guys that have trouble with their 2 strokes are the one's who pound the living @#$% out of there stuff and then bitch when it don't run and say it's a p.o.s. then there are the one's that can't just leave well enough alone and have to mod the motors in their sleds so that the sun moon and stars have to align just right for it to right when left stock they are pleanty relieable but hey this is jmo

Polaris I believe is ahead in most categories in the mountain class except for engine technology. The Etec is a rockin motor don't get me wrong.
The 800 cfi has several changes this year to the top end that have drastically improved reliability and performance, and from what I heard the new the Pro-RMK is killing everything right now out West.
Plus you have the option of a 4 yr bumper to bumper that's the best warranty I've heard of when you buy a sled.

As for cost I think there all messed up; $12k+ snowmobiles is just insane!

I think Polaris builds a great machine in the assault package but the 800 motors dont have a very good track record for reliability. or fuel economy. The 600 is a great motor but doent even come close to the 600etec in any category except for power. I will be on doo sleds for awhile until someone else comes out with reliability, power, and fuel economy in a light weight 2stroke

Bottom line is that they took off some weight and Poo has a nice looking sled. Engine issues were worked out but they have faith due to 4 year warranty. 144 with cobra or 2 inch lug would be a killer. Doo did the same thing with the Backcountry Gade option which was long overdue IMO. As far as issues the 08 XP was full of them so....

I can't knock the sled as I haven't ridden one, but it will take more than 500 bucks to get me to switch.........

I'm with you on that, but it's hard to pass up a full bumper to bumper warranty for 4 years!!!!! That's just crazy!!!!! My buddy is putting in his spring order so we'll see next year how he likes it and how it handles. He is going from a 121" to the 144" in the new Switchback. Gonna be a big change but they claim it will still handle great in the trails.

We shall see.......................

I rode a rush 800R and a 600 at the snowdeo in NH and was not impressed by either sled. I swear my 600 e-tech pulls harder than that 800 I rode. Every test sled had a sticker with a weight amount written on it. I wanted to be sure I had the right one so I could make a fair judgment on the suspension. The rear suspension sucked. They felt heavy in the front end too. I don't know what all the hype is about. An xrs is far better in every way. I would think a crappy assault with it's old fashion riding position would be worse but hey, what do I know, I'm just a consumer, right?

i can't belive anyone would even consider the polaris!

Its heavy like something sick, not that nice of a rider position, and the fuel mileage of an E Tec is amazing

Not to mention the Doo has a better off trail track (thats where these sleds are ment to be)

I'm gonna stick to cats and doo's. Polaris sleds just have to many issues. IMO the 2 stroke should be perfected on the reliability portion of an engine, I mean 50 years later you would think they would all be bullet proof. The two sleds that are fighting over the mountains right now are cats and doo's, it's pretty close especially with both of the 800's being kickass engines. 2012 is when cats gonna go big, I look foward to a di engine. But hopefully next year ill be riding yellow.

I love it when people rag on other manufacturers sleds, based off riding style and weight without actually having ridden them to see how they feel. Plus a small amount of weight doesn't really make that much of a difference depending on how it is distributed across the sled, and if you had 2 identical sleds and 1 was 10lbs heavier, I bet almost no one would know the difference without being told. Some people need to realize that you don't own the best sled on the market, no matter what you buy, someone will have a sled made by one of the other brands that will beat you at everything.

Couldn't agree more, the majority of guys bash sleds they haven't ridden and use others opinions to make judgment which makes no sense. Put some real miles on a sled / chassis before making any kind of opinion. A 5-mile test ride doesn't count.

haha so did I.......Now I get to hear all about how the DOO's break down and blow up!
