Pb80 Big washer issue

searched, cant get cvtech to return call, and vendor couldnt answer this.

old style pb, with beefy cup. Flat larger convexed washer. Torq correctly, installed properly...no loctite

some way some how the hex part of the crank has eaten into back of lg washer. Assuming got loose? cant imagine it wasnt seated properly as i always tap the puck cover down to make sure it it seated. either way i order a new washer and they send me a washer with a hex cut out in it...vs the hole like the one i have. Is this obviously a new design?.....or eliminates installing the old style washer incorrectly?

My issue now is, the new hex holed washer just doesnt sit on the crank hex nearly enough for my liking. barely grabs.the crank.......ive layed the washer on a flat surface and havent seen where it is cupped at all...or only goes on one way....seems like doesnt matter.....slide the hex hole over the cranked and then nut and torq

Is this normal guys. Is this new washer only made for newer style/designed pb80s ??

thanks

most definately......why I went to replace it. I just expected to recieve another round holed washer from my vendor. i recieved the hex holed one actually thinking it would be a great improvment over the flat deal.....couldnt ever put it on wrong....but it just doesnt seat onto the hex part of the crank very well.....not enough of the hex is hanging out past the puck cover to permit the washer to seat

maybe after you torq everything down it would? just thought id ask, hate to ruin anything. The outer puck cove is expensive

I'm 98% sure those washers are not interchangeable. I'm no dealer or vendor, but just looking at the CVTech online catalog with parts breakdown, for V1 clutches the washer part number is 0050-1001, and the V2 clutches the washer is part number 0080-0804. Obviously these are 2 different parts, and both are still offered.

I have both versions of this clutch and I can visualize the difference you are talking about -- I can't see how the washers could possibly interchange correctly. However I can see how the V1 clutch is more likely to suffer the problem you had, and it's probably something they redesigned/corrected in the new version. But it takes a whole clutch to overcome that weak point...not just the washer. There are other clutch differences in machining, beyond just the washer itself.

So I'd speculate that you are trying to install a V2 washer, which is incorrect for your V1 clutch. So it won't fit. Return it and re-order the correct part number for your old style clutch.

Not sure what you mean? If I'm interpreting correctly Kevin said he has V1, with a round hole washer (like your original buggered up one). So he has the correct combo. But I think you're trying to put a new style hex washer onto a clutch designed to take the older round hole washer. Won't work.

You said something about a convex washer. Neither washer in my experience is convex. Both are flat. If yours was convex maybe it is because was bent? This could have easily caused your problem.

That's how I'm interpreting this thread anyway. But as proven many times...I could be wrong.

May i ask where did you call and whom you spoke with ? You should always get an answer or a least a return in a short period,,,

Please call back and please snap a few pictures....Thx!

Yes. The pic from Kevin that's the correct one for V1 clutch. And there is nothing convex about it. Just a flat washer, with round hole, and the stepped hole. Orientation is important with that one to put the stepped part inward. For V2 you get a big flat washer with a hex shaped hole instead of round, no stepping, and it can be installed in any direction.

okay.....so i received the wrong washer. so that innner lip/step down in that pic goes facing to hex part of crank then. correct? I dont even think my original washer has that step in it though....i could be wrong as its pretty chewed up all the way around.

i talked to some one french i could barely understand, and sent me to vm never heard back sucks

Kevin S im confused you stated you have the hex style but you posted a pik of a round holed washer....lol

what did they change then in the V2 that now accomodates the hex style washer. shortened up the outside cover? as i stated ..my set up just doesnt allow enough meat of the crank to grab that hex. But now i know i need that flat washer anyway thanks for the help guys

If you get french people that you cant and they cant barely understand you ask to be transferred,,, Unfortunatly english is still a big handicap over thx to the law 101....We apologize about that but..well try ext: 224... I should answer...

About the washer problem they both fit there.... The round one has a two step side...but could be put backward the new one is hex all over so idiot proof...BUT you can interchange them....at least when everything is new and hasnt took a beating... I just tried it here...

And no the hex wont sit all the way down on the shaft in fact it barely grip the hex . And thats how it's been made...Once you torque it down it wont move...Make sure you secure it the max you can before apllying final torq cuz i had my own spin a quarter turn ...Been lucky i was makin a new calib so i had to crack it open a few mins later....

Ok seems i got it wrong about the first style clutch sorry about that guys... Basically there is a version in wich the hex just dont come out at all...

And this one would need the 2 step washer ... So if the hex is sitting flush with the cover Round is ok Hex is not... If the hex protrude a bit from the cover both are fine...

As for the op its all set with your dealer monday morning the right washer is leaving...

Thx guys once again and sorry for the misleading info...

And have a good week-end :smile_old:

I have both. A v2 PB80 with the hex style washer that i had on my Wife's 1200 and the v1 with round hole washer that I have on my 1200.
