oil pump shaft won't turn?

I just had an '06 500ss motor rebuilt and when the guy went to install the oil pump, the shaft didn't spin very well and after 9-10 revolutions it just locks up. This is hand power, I haven't forced it.

It had to be spinning under power because the gear and shaft in the motor are ok.

Will an oil pump just lock up?

Sounds like something is not back together properly and I wouldn't force it just yet without knowing more.

Sure there are others that know more about your motor than me but should turn freely all the time I would think. Just runs off the gear in the center on the crank. Wouldn't turn at all if was in wrong IMO.

Are you spinning the crank over to see the oil shaft turn or turning the oil shaft itself.

If your turning the oil shaft by hand then eventually your going to hit a compression stroke which then you will not be able to turn by hand but I would think you could pull the plugs and possibly still turn it over by hand.

Little more details please if you can.

You might want to take it apart and look inside. The ski doo oil pumps are prone to some binding after time.My 2003 600ho has the pump shaft inside the housing with no bearings so the shaft wears away at the housing.I actually put an extra return spring on it to try to save on oil because it would not return all the way at idle.
