If you're concerned about it sticking out to far, hang a red flag on it, but it's really unnecessary.....

^^^^ I've always wondered now I know. Going to load my 154 in my 07.5 Silverado with the 5'7" box when I am just taking my one sled. Looks silly but not pulling a trailer for no reason.

 

What a sorry excuse of a truck.

The tailgate is meant to handle the weight and most of the weight will be on the truck bed with the engine and the bed will also support most of the track weight. The tailgate will be more of a reading place

LMFAO. That is awesome. You just can't do that unless you have a "Git er done" bumper sticker.

 

I use my ram with a 6 foot bed tailgate open put a piece of plywood down to protect the liner in the bed it works great. I currently only have a mxz but I have a 146 summit on the way and I don't see it being a problem my buddy has a 154 in the same truck.

gade with tailgate down, one simple strap to keep it from sliding back, do it all the time.

 

Done it with multiple length sleds and different length trucks....

I made a set of these, my intended use was for with a wheeler in the bed and to latch in a 3/4 closed position. Would work to hold the weight in lew of the gate cables whenever fully open.

 

All the weight is in the front of a sled; and plenty of guys get away with it, but that's a little too much for my comfort zone. I love my long bed; I can leave the diamond plate box in, and still have plenty of surface left- especially with the tailgate.

 

Yup..... when I got rid of my GMC, and looking at the Dodge, I never even looked at the bed. I’ve owned long box trucks for 25 years...... honestly been debating on already getting rid of this truck just because of the box

 

I'll never own one of those super crews with the tiny bed.

Is that a short box truck? I have not picked up my sled yet. I know it is not as long as your summit. I wonder if the track will hang over the gate cause yours barely does.

That was a 6' box. Having some track hang out is no big deal, and not unsafe

This was the shortest track sled ever in my truck

Nice. With the right cover I imagine the sled really doesn't get that dirty either.

 

We haul them in beds all the time. Usually tailgate up but doesn't matter. Never had a problem.

Only time it matters is if you are hauling an enclosed trailer too. Then you will want it to be tailgate up.

No not really. Sometimes a pain to strap down (cover ) ,but you'll figure it out

I had a 137" Renegade with a 5.5' ford f150, no issues at all. It's a bigger box with the gate down I have a 146" coming and will be doing the same thing. I have the same caliber ramp too, awesome ramp, don't hesitate to get that ramp!
