I'm looking for information or help on getting rid of this thing. I've read the candoo megatech and buds all can disable the keys but i don't have one of those very expensive programs. Any help would be appreciated.

Please don't respond about why I need it and everything else. I will be installing a tether and I have my key to prove my sled starts. I'd probably upgrade to the newer version key if anyone knows how. A few friends have them and haven't had a single issue so far. I have a 2013 summit etec and I'm just over this d.e.s.s.

I believe there is a RF version called Teth-Air or something. This may do what you want.

Thanks Mr gutz. From what it looks like you still need the dess key plugged in just not attached to you, I may be wrong but it's what I could see on YouTube.

I really thought about sticking my dess under the hood and taping it together but I probably still have to wiggle it and it'll just piss me off.

Not sure where you are located but I have offer to help some guys on here with key reprogramming, reading codes, etc. I'm sure other guys do the same thing. If you are close to one of us, they may be willing to disable the DESS for you.

Your challenge is this.... the DESS is more than an On / Off switch. it is able to allow the sled to start with the wrong key but prevent it from running at a high enough RPM to move the sled. If you look at the schematics, the new RF DESS Post has three wires. Those three wires run directly to the ECM.

MrGutz is probably on the right track. You are going to need something that can act like more than an Off / On switch because if you don't disable the DESS security in the ECM, then it is going to keep looking for the "right" DESS key.

I just remembered there is a thread somewhere in which someone did replace the old-style DESS with the new RF DESS. I think it was done on a Sea Doo, which uses the same DESS. Let me see if I saved the link in my Favorites to post for you. I personally think that is the better way to go.

*Edit*

Ok.... found the info I was talking about. There was a Sea Doo forum and a bunch of guys wanted to upgrade to the new RF design as well. The guys from CanDOOPro did some testing.

While the old style has two wires and the new style has three wires, the wiring is apparently the same. However, the extra wire needs 12v to be connected. Not sure if it's a switched 12v or constant 12v.

Here are some links that might help....

With all that being said..... if you wanted to upgrade to the RF DESS, you will still need someone to program the new key for you. The good news is I have never had an issue with the new style DESS.

Thanks for the response. I live near Kalamazoo michigan. I plan on using a normal tether like any other machine would have. I also planned on doing a hidden switch.

You know what you may want to do? See if you can dig into the pre-DESS Sea Doo's that only used a tether and not the DESS. BRP actually sells a kit to upgrade the old-style non-secure tether to the RF DESS. Here is a link I found for the Spark upgrade kit.... http://www.skidoooutlet.com/sea-doo-rf-d-e-s-s-tm-key-for-sparks-with-ibr.html?fee=1&fep=36696&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&adpos=1o1&scid=scplp295100639&sc_intid=295100639&gclid=Cj0KCQiAgZTRBRDmARIsAJvVWAtSlu4RRYv4A7lnNcTG4mMKoFuRqrP4EAf7OYqMy5LMFZ5PZLEftrYaAiuoEALw_wcB

You have to think if you can find some schematics for the older Sea Doos that use a tether-only, you might be able to figure out how to make it work on your sled.

I wasn't necessarily saying you should buy that upgrade kit. I was just using it to show you there was a way (with the Sea-Doo Spark at least) to take an old-there system and add the RF DESS. That would imply you should be able to go backwards from a DESS to a plain tether.

But as you said, you still need to turn off the DESS security in the ECM. Once you do that, then you should be able to do a plain tether.

a dealer can not disable dess. and i do not beleive you can swap to the rf key with out swapping ecms.

you can replace the killswitch with a normally open tether and leave the dess clipped to the riser. thats about as good as it gets. it sucks but unless you upgrade to a 15 you get to live with the dess as is

Agreed, not an option at the dealer and it shouldn't be because we are not supposed to muck around with removing the security system on a Ski-Doo. The OP asked for the new style RF DESS, so that would be the only option imo.
