Hi all. This new product from BRP looks very handy for having a constant display of your phone with your trail map displayed. We typically ride 4K-5K/year and constantly find ourselves stopping to dig out our phone (almost all using iPhones) to double check where we are and where the next turn is, or worse still, where the last turn WAS! And iPhones are notorious for shutting down in cold weather, not good. So, a heated (how does this new product "heat" the phone) phone/map display would be awesome. Also does it provide power to the phone as well as heat? Anyone have this and can provide any information would be greatly appreciated.

It looks pretty cool.
Thanks

We gave up on iphones. Withiut foot heaters With sticky backs for backs of iPhone all apple phones will die after a while from cold . Even after minus 30 anf remove from inside jacket pocket plugged in 1 call.and dead. The glovebox extension and phone bracket will still leave your phone outside. So.... you will still need sticky heater packs from Costco for an apple device.

The cellphone glovebox has a heated element where you place your phone much like what is wrapped around your handlebars for the handwarmers. It is plugged into your sleds accessory plug and should keep the phone warm while the sled is running. Can’t confirm it myself as I haven’t been able to ride my new sled yet. It definitely gets warm though.

Just my initial thoughts but if you're riding 4-5k a season and using or attempting to use a cell phone for mapping, I think you are a prime candidate for a GPS. Leave the cell, charging in the glove box to keep warm and buy a GPS. Trying to see a small cellphone screen and looking away is a safety issue at the very least and more so with the amount of riding you do.
I had a Garmin Montana 4" which is great and use for atv but decided to go larger for my sled with a 6" Garmin now.
Wasn't expensive either.

I have one and so far it works very well. Easy to put in and take out, always warm and charged. Probably the best accessory I have bought in years. I haven’t found it a problem to see the screen but I really am only looking while stopped at an intersection. If you need a bigger area to see the next turn you just scroll out to find the turn or turns and then press the find me button and you are back on your way. So far it has been convenient, warm and charged. Really no downside that I can see.

Should be noted that the glove box extension with cell phone only comes with the plug to heat the element for the phone holder/display and does not include a charging mechanism. You will also need to have the 12 volt USB or 12 volt CLA charger accessory to keep things charging as you will likely want to leave your display on at all times to benefit which is going to eat battery. The plugs piggy back off each other and is super easy to install.

It works great and is an awesome set up.

I got the cell phone holder as well but read comments from another user that after riding with his phone in the holder, the phone camera no longer works. Has me very apprehensive to use mine.

The new gauge comes with a heated bag, USB plug for your phone to sync with the gauge...now this is where the glove box extension becomes the problem, the heated bag attaches to the lid and has a very short plug.. and the USB is tied to the gauge not for other accessories. You have to get a little creative to get the USB plug in there, a little cutting and drilling to do so, however your still left with a very short plug for the bag to heat your phone.

The GPS setup pictured above is approx $260 in parts and and hour to assemble/install. I run my GPS to the USB plug hot lead to eliminate USB plug issues, also it is on a switch so it can be ran at anytime.

I saw that other post you are referring to - perhaps that phone had been dropped a 100 times or had some other issue and finally dumped the camera after a few bumps.. For what it's worth, a friend of mine already has 2500 miles on his sled so far this year and it's always in the holder. He rides hard with a new iPhone 12 and has had zero issues. He puts on over 10,000 miles a season, so I will post up if I hear of any issue with his phone being in the holder.

I believe you're referring to a a different accessory. The question is about the glove box extender with cell phone display part 860202072

The extended glove box door with heating element is also nice, it has a soft gel face and you can use your phone screen with in there, it will amazingly work though the face, we played with it in the store. My new sled has the new gauge, however my old eyes need something a bit bigger so went back to the garmin on the extended door.

I have posted about this item in other posts as well and is also a viable option for other uses being it has 2 USP and 2 RCA ports. Plug n Play. I've used these on older yamahas and now 2 Gen 4 skidoo's and has been great. Velcro mountable in any location. I chose upside down inside my glove box extension as shown.

Hope this helps someone. I've noticed that there is no heating needed for cell phones within a bag. I haven't had any issues with such even below zero temps with Gen 4 sleds due to engine heat close by but just my opinion.

The extended glove box with heated cell phone holder for the Gen 4's works great. I've been using mine constantly with the OnX Hunt app to redirect old backcountry trails around private property to avoid future conflicts, as well as map out old trails accurately. I have a basic Iphone SE and the whole setup has been one of the best accessories I have put on a machine. I've mapped over 500 miles of trails in the last week that had no GPS tracks on them in the past. These tracks are all backcountry single tracks with no grooming, so there's plenty of bouncing around. The phone gets way less abuse than when it was tucked in the pocket of the bibs. Camera still works fine.

Hey- I am adding my Montana and pulled everything out under the dash and found the accessory plug that was tied to the heated bag for new gauge. My question is do you know if there is a second accessory plug or if I need to just buy a splitter to run the GPS off of the same accessory plug that the heated bag used? Wasn't sure if you saw a second one under there or not.

Thanks.

I needed another "hot" lead and with other accessories like lighting etc.
Grip n rip racing makes splitters with correct plugs for sleds. Several different combinations available, check them out.
Scroll back to my post and pics of the power port I added. It comes with a long enough cord where you can mount anyplace you like. Even on the back of glovebox door, or like I did, at top of extension upside down. Plugs into back of cig or usb plug. Plug n play.

So are you running any other items on your sled such as Aux lights, heated shield... those will use you Accessory plug. If you want to add to that you can, as mentioned you can buy the plug from GnR or others. This is why I soldered my GPS wires to the USB plug so not to tie up any USB ports (which tend to be unstable for many Garmins). Like I mentioned I ran a hot lead from my starter solenoid to my dash/switch than used a Y cable from that to run the the USB and LED handguards so I can use these items with the sled off.

Don't mind the acrylic, I put that in the plastic threads of the heated visor shield and USB plug Nut threads to keep them from backing off, works like Lock Tight..but for plastic.

Great Info. No, the only thing tied into an aux. plug is the heated glovebox phone holder that came with the 7.8 Gauge from the factory. I can't seem to find a second Aux. plug anywhere, but wasn't sure if the new harness had (2) plugs or not since they chose to use it for the heated bag, so I ordered the splitter to pull off of that one for the GPS. I spent prob 20 mins looking for a second plug, but will tear off the hood, etc. this weekend when I install a skid plate and should be able to confirm.

So the plug your looking for is under the hood (since it appears your not using it) left side of steering post attached to the post surround, it will be plugged into the plastic.. see #1 below.

So if your only wanting to run your GPS when the sled is on and you have a several choices, one is the old cig plug, another is USB and lastly is the factory direct wire. I have not seen the splitter for that factory bag to be honest.. but if you ordered/found one that's great. Otherwise..if you just want to wire to the factory aux plug you would want ether this plug from GnR:

Most electrical accessories from BRP come with the y cable to continue adding more accessories...with the exception of the heated visor plug, that does not, the ELinq power connector does though.

I know this is an old thread, but lots of good info here to bump it up again.

I do have a couple questions.
1. Does the heater come on all the time, or is there a thermostat? I installed this and the USB glovebox outlet simultaneously and the outlet works well, but I cannot sense any heat on the resistor pad. (60 deg inside, and run for 2-min... Got really smokey FAST).
2. I installed on a '19 Enduro 850 with the accessory LED headlight already plugged in to the assigned "accessory" port. This means I now have a heated seat, LED headlight, USB charging plug, AND glovebox heating pad.... All on the same circuit (to my knowledge). Should I be afraid???????

Thanks all!
