The headlights are really not an upgrade. I lined up my LED equipped G4 against my buddy with his G5. One with the lights on, then the other. He was quite disappointed to see how bad his G5 was. It was significant.

Here is a video of similar results. LED equipped G4 to G5 comparison
Brighter? Sure. Scattered all over the place , absolutely. Which is to be expected when you retrofit something into a halogen housing. Like the guys dumping HID kits for years in halogen housings on trucks, blinding coming at them due to light dispersion. The screen grab I took shows it fairly clearly. Seems the G5 stock puts the brighter light where it matters as shown below. I had the AUX HIgh beams on my G4's, but standard halogen bulbs. If you werent leading and had those aux high beams on visibility became awful through the snow dust, but the halogen light cuts right through it. I didnt notice this on my G5 ( with just the stock lights). One major thing of Note I found my G5 head light needed a fair amount of adjustment up, it was pointed pretty low from the factory. Would love to seem these guys adjust the stock G5 up, it would put the desired area further out in front. No need to see that close to your ski's anyways. All the condensate in the G5 Factory LED headlight kinda sucks but whatever.

Biggest difference between G4 and G5 is, the G5 just destroyed the value of your G4.
You must not look at used prices much. Have you looked at Facebook marketplace, Craigslist, dealers websites? Sure doesn’t look destroyed to me. In fact I am anticipating taking the least loss on my old sled ever. The rise in prices of the new sleds has dragged used right up with them. There are plenty of ‘21’s for sale at almost retail from that time. I don’t think they will get that but they sure aren’t going to take the loss I have seen in my past. Same thing has occurred to the auto industry. Prices are coming down but they will never come back to what was “normal”

I take that video with a grain of salt. I had LED bulbs in my G4s and whether its the Kool-Aid or not, I feel that the G5 lights perform a lot better on the trails. I always found that my LEDs in G4s really only worked well on low beam.

I would still rather have my G5 LEDs if I had to pick one today.

As far as the Powermadd shields are concerned, they may work good, but they are just SOOOOO ugly, I wont use one.

I got my new 24 Renegade XRS for less than many are asking for their 22/23s.
The high priced used sleds are not selling now.

i totally agree they won’t get 2024 prices but what I said is they are going to get close to 2021 prices and I am more than thrilled with that. For instance. I will have a ‘21 XRS 600R with 3100 miles with another year of warranty left for sale this fall for approximately 12k. It’s studded and could have aux high beams, beamtech headlights, extended glovebox with heated cellphone attachment, medium windshield kit, full body skid plate, usb power supply, and heated shield outlet. Shocks will even be brand new “24s as soon as it comes in. I can easily see what dealers are asking for on similar sleds with much less value in my area. Times are very different indeed. It’s not just people selling on the various platforms.

Sorry, but I disagree. Used sleds are falling fast. 600s are holding steady for sure however, 850s are flooding the market. I traded my 21 XRS 850 this past Nov. Dealer put up for $13,5. Then it sat, went down to $12,5 end of Jan. 11,8 mid Feb. 11,3 March first. Dealer has 8 sleds like this. The market is falling whether you want to believe it or not. People dont want to finance at this higher interest rate. If a guy is walking in with cash, he is buying brand new at these prices. Even though my 21 had 4k miles and 1 yr warranty left. Clean as whistle. It didn't move. Hopefully it will sell next fall for the dealer. Fwiw, I paid 13,1 for the 21 mentioned here. So yes sled prices did climb but no longer. Those prices on FB marketplace aren't sleds that are moving. Hey, cheers anyways. Long summer ahead.

For me they're both pretty much the same the only thing I dislike on the G5 is the hot grip thumb warmer setup that's the stupidest thing ever invented even stupider with the high-end gauge because when the gauge goes out so does the power to the hot grip and thumb warmer might not matter to those riding goat type trails but when you ride in Canada or northern Maine or New Hampshire or wherever they're high-speed trails not only dangerous but just plain old stupid
I have a G5 and I agree 100% with the had and thumb warmer. Come on BRP how do you screw this one up !!!!!

Im gonna be selling my ‘21 MXZ XRS 850 This fall as well(Have an 850 Turbo R coming), and mine has 2365 miles on it, with another year of full factory warranty also, has 96 grandmaster studs up the middle and all LED upgrades(auxiliary high beams and under headlight LED’s as well), extreme skid plate and premium gauge….sled is like brand new. Been wondering What should I ask for it, if you’re asking about 12k for your 600?

I think there will be a lot of disappointed sellers this fall. Most won't get close to what they think their sled is worth. It will be a buyers market again pretty soon.

Skidoo and their dealers do not seem to be offering any sizeable discounts on the leftover sleds, so that may keep the resale value high for low milage used sleds.

What I do is I will be asking around what the dealers in my area are asking for sleds of similar value and adjust accordingly. It’s worked for many many years now. Will be waiting till my new one shows up before selling the old one just in case. No matter what I will be getting more than I was offered for it on trade and that’ wasn’t terrible.

For now. When they are still sitting on them next fall and people start backing out of spring checks like last year, pricing will drop. It seems all the powersports are starting to have a lot more inventory than this time last year.
Last year my dealer had basically no PWCs or ATVs in inventory. This year their showroom is full and there are dozens of machines in boxes. I will be looking to sell a sled in the fall. If what is happening with PWC and ATVs happens with sleds I’m not going to be getting the money I figured I could count on when I made my 2024 spring order. Don’t love that but is what it is. For me the surprise is that the prices of used sleds have remained so high for so long.

I think it depends on whether we're comparing the G5 to an early G4 or a later G4. Compared to my early G4 (2018) my G5 steers lighter, corners flatter, & rides better. The new gauge is pretty cool and stock for stock the new LED headlights are a definite improvement. But once again Doo has blurred the lines between models. Like back in 2012 when they put the RM on the very last year of the XP. Had they waited just one more year there would've been a more clear separation between the XP & the XS. This time around the last 2 years of the G4 (21 & 22) got the new Pilot X, Ras X, & R-Motion X set-up. Some people like it (plusher ride / less steering effort) others miss the more playful / Polaris like ride of the earlier G4s. But now we got Lynx for that so choose accordingly.

I have bought 14 new Ski doo’s 5 used. Every time I got new sled they were so much better than the chassis before. Even better when the gen model change. I ordered a new Gen 5 850. Well very disappointed with the heated hand and thumb warmer setting system!!! Most stupidest thing ever made for a snowmobile. It’s unsafe to use while going down the trail. The next stupid is the med windshield with mirrors!!! Had rotate the bars and bring the riser way back so the handle bars wouldn’t hit !! Couldn’t leave the hand guards on either. Then I went to use my factory Ski doo handle bar muffs on a really cold weekend. Guess what they hit the windshield and fetch up in the mirrors to!!! I had 2017 Gen 4 850 with same set up never had a issue!!! Way faster then my 2023 for sure . Definitely lot of things that never got tested before it went to the market for Gen 5. The narrow cab is stupid for trail riding. Lot more wind on the body then the Gen 4 . Well maybe some day they will listen to there riders

I have to agree with the windshield and mirror option being not very desirable and also the hand and thumbwarmer being the dumbest thing ever. Beyond that, I can’t complain. Was my first 850, but going back to a 4 stroke as it fits me better.
