I'm not totally up to speed on the E-tec's. Coming off a P-tek. As I understand it e-tech plugs are indexed, I maybe wrong though. I know of a few with upwards of 4000 miles on them and running original plugs for what it's worth.

Its bad but not that bad, just take the top off it. Get plugs from ski doo or you will have to index yourself, you dont wanna go there.

 

Need to get some shims most likely. make sure you mark the plugs too before you start so you know the location.

 

Buy a moroso 14mm flat seat shim kit for the plugs. Racing engine shops should have them or summit and jegs, I bought ski doo NGK plugs and they still need shims to index correctly

 

You don't need a index tool just mark the plug body where the electrode arm is. if you use the oem plugs they are already indexed. This is directly from skidoo shop manual for etec 600 and 800. Been a powersports mechanic for 17 years. I have changed probably 1000 etec plugs and I always mark the body because there is manufacturing errors on the plug end but I have yet to see one not indexed correctly. (yet)

Spark Plugs

A new platinum NGK PZFR6F spark plug is used,

one per cylinder.

It has an expected life of approximately 10 000 km

(6000 mil.

The OEM spark plug used in the E-TEC engine

is specially indexed for optimum engine operation

and efficiency.

The threads on the spark plug and in the cylinder

head are indexed so that when the plug is installed,

the open end of the negative electrode will

be facing the injection spray, within ± 90°. This ensures

the negative electrode does not deviate the

injection spray and ensures proper ignition.

Never had to change one but there is always a first so enlighten me. The tip of the electrode faces the injector. On a new plug mark the electrode location on the plug and then just line up the mark 90 degree to the injector? That not too hard and the hood comes off in 1 minute...obviously it may not tighten in the correct spot and hence the need for the shims correct? Please confirm as it's most likely when the day does come I new to change plugs I'll be not close to dootalk!

 

I have changed plugs on my etec prolly 6 times & have never taken anything apart. One thing I did do tho is cut about 3/4" off the big end of the plug socket. Made it about 100x easier to get on ur mag side plug. Takes about 3 minutes to change plugs on a etec.
