Good job. I did the same thing last year after seeing the pics of the Summits wth the broken bottles. One of those things that may not be needed, but if you did hit your knee there and break the bottle the ride is over.

 

Are the 2018s The same way or have they re located the bottle ?

Ski doo's fix was to ad recoil handle. Some cut like mentioned above, and some removed the bottom bolt so bottle could flex. I only heard of this being an issue on the summits with the narrower panels

 

Right this was a summit issue to very few due to the skinny panels, theres a ton of room on the trail sleds, if you hit your knee on a trail sled and break that you hit something so hard the rest of the sled has issues too

I remember seeing the coolant bottle now in the very front on the left panel if you're sitting on the sled. I'm guessing it shouldn't be an issue anymore.

I realize that the possibility of having an issue with this is very low.... especially on a trail sled vs a mountain sled and the panels may be different etc..... but if this eliminates the chance of ruining a trip or being stranded with a long walk because all the coolant leaves the coolant system due to a poor design location...imo... then that is all I was trying to do.... totally unnecessary to locate that plug on the bottle in my opinion....silly... and hence the reason they changed it going forward to 18s....
Its not hard to make this mod... but take your time... it's a hot knife thru butter....

Rough measurements I took last year was about 2 inches between the connector and the side panel. Heat up the panel from the exhaust, add in a washout on the trail causing a hard hit from a knee and there was enough potential for contact to make me cut it off. Not saying anyone else has to.
