I have a 2003 MXZX 800 and am running a 24/43 and love it...it may be too much low end for 1000 ft but maybe not i have never marked out 1000 ft but it pulls strong up to about 85-90 have a few other mods in her for 1000 maybe more like 44 bottom or 25 top someone will give u an exact for sure.

I dropped to a 24 tooth with the stock 45 on my 04 800 and it pulls pretty hard. I think you could definitely use a 23, but it might require a new chain.

23/44 w/ 74 pitch chain. Runs strong to 1000' - 1/4 mile. The nice thing about this too is that the chain just fits so there is not much bend in the chain which makes it a little more efficient. IMO
