Why? Fun Factor! We'll pay it, so they charge it! People used to bitch at me when I told them a new tire for their car was $50, but they'd cough up $150 without a whimper for a new tire for their street bike!

Another example... how many people do you know that wouldn't bat an eye at spending $1500 on a big bore kit for their sled, but if they burned the transmission out of their truck they'd practically junk the thing?
I posted the same thing a year or so ago.

You can buy a rebuilt engine for half what they charge for a sled motor. It goes on and on.
It is ridiculous, but most anything recreational has a huge make-up. The 'ol saying, "if you wanna play, ya gotta pay". When I stand back and look at a sled like a new Mach I'm like there is no way there is over a 11 grand here.....it's a piece of plastic and aluminum for god sakes! I would never buy a new sled.....buy one that is a yr or two old that is in mint shape, and let someone else take the hit. These things drop like a rock, and for what......2 months of riding if that?

Why? Because there is a lot of people out their that dont care and finace it so its just another payment.
I for 1 always bought new but since the sleds got over $6g's I buy used starting with the sled in my sig.
I do hope people keep buying new so I can buy it 1-2 years later for half of what they payed for it plus you get a lot of extra goodies too!

Recreational products cost more than cars because he car manufacturers sell a sh%^ load more cars than sleds which pays for the R&D and some profit....we the consumer are always demanding the latest and greatest so we can look all cool in the parking lot of the local bar/restaurant on saturday night. How else would you expect a manufacture to make a profit on a sled ?

You got it right. As sled sales by volume has plummeted, increases per unit have went up at a greater percentage.

As f'd up as that type of thinking sounds, its true. I dumped a couple grand into my sled motor,(approx what the whole sled is worth) but would never put that percent into repairing a car.

Very good point. We wouldn't have to pay the prices if we didn't want the most up to date stuff. We pay it why wouldn't they charge it?
