Tearing down my 500ss. Found this on the bench at the end. Appears to be a spacer of some sort. No clue where it came from. It’s about 5.5mm thick. Was dirtier so I assume exterior. Made of aluminum. I’ve checked the fiche and can’t find it. Ideas??

Of course, you should let us know how far are you on the tear down and what do you mean by tear down.

Meaning, did you pull

  • Motor
  • Front Suspension
  • Steering
  • Rear Suspension/Skid
You don't have a friend/brother that likes to mess with you by throwing extra parts on your bench? 😈

I pulled the motor out of the sled and moved it to the bench. Removed head, cylinder, pistons, starter, split the cases, pulled crank and when I was tidying up this lone little spacer was left on the bench. I was pretty diligent with parts putting them in labelled zip lock bags as it may be a minute before I put it back together.

Maybe the top park of the Engine mount? Looks like there are 2 different types on that chassis.
EDIT: Never mind the above is correct!

Glad you found it!

Reminds me of removing my muffler earlier this season and hearing a rattle in there. I shook it out and found a small snap ring fell out of it. I put it on my bench to keep thinking where it would've came from. I feared the engine but it was the standard snap ring with ears, not like the piston circlips so I was stumped.

The exhaust outlet was pinched partially shut and I loaned an exhaust pipe expander from local store and it's threads were all buggered up and it didn't work well so I returned it. I had only tried with the muffler on the sled at that time. A month or so later I decided to give it another try with a new expander tool and removed the muffler and found that circlip.

Long story short, it was off of the 1st tool I used. They use a circlip to keep the tool from being unthreaded all the way. That one had me awake a few nights. LOL
