Got The Snap Rings In What A Pain But Once I Found Out How I Did The First The Others Came Along Good..................

***Just Waiting On Some Advise On The Rings.. You Gotta Save Pic To Dest-Top And Enlarge To See Better Im Not Sure If The Flat Part Is Up Or The Open Is Up I Think The Right One Is The Way Its Suppose To But I Wanna Make Sure.. Thanks If You Could Help Out.. Just Wanna Get This Engine Running And See How It Runs.. Thanks Once Again..
the gap in the rings goes on the intake side so they don't snag the exhaust port.
alright..thanks what about the rings which one is the right way to put on the piston wanan make sure.. im thinking its the right since its flat at top u know what i mean?
umm, you're asking which ring goes on top? the "flat" ring should be on the bottom and the angled one on the top. they should only fit properly one way, meaning the slots on the piston are different sizes.
i put them on both ways and putting the angled up its loose.. putting the angle down it fits nice and good moves just a tab...i wish i had a camera to show u better.. need more advise before i put together..
I've never had a 454 apart so I couldn't tell you for sure, I just know that's how the rings on my 503 pistons go.
Thanks To Cheap You Was Right.. Thanks Once Again...
ring end gap goes toward the side of the piston with the retaining pins in the piston ring groove. make sure you put the rings in the cyilinders and measure/set the correct ring end gap spec before installing the pistons. you will require a set of feeler guages for this

THE PISTON HAS A LOCATOR PIN IN THE RING LAND. THAT PIN SOULD BE CENTERED IT THE GAP OF THE RING WHEN IT IS INSTALLED. MAKE SURE THE PISTON IS IN CORRECTLY. ARROW ON TOP TOWARDS EXAUST. DENNY KUYAHOORA

SKI DOO HAS MADE SEVERAL TOOLS FOR THIS. I STILL USE A OLD SMALL REG SCREWDRIVER THAT I GROUND THE END INTO A L SHAPE WITH A POINT. NEVER REUSE A C CLIP, ALWAYS INSTALL WITH GAP DOWN , AND MAKE SURE THEY ARE IN TIGHT. JUST FIT ONE END OF CLIP IN AT 5 OCLOCK, HOLD IN WITH LEFT INDEX FINGER, AND USE OTHER HAND WITH TOOL TO WORK IN THE CIRCLIP FORCING IT WITH FINCER AND TOOL STARTING AT 10 OCLOCK AND WORKING YOUR WAY TWDS GAP. DON'T TRY TO DO IT ALL AT ONCE AND DON'T BEND CIRCLIP! IT HELPS IF YOU PUT CLOTH AROUND ROD. THOSE THINGS CAN BE HARD TO GET OUT OF CRANKCASE! KUYAHOORA DENNY
