OK selling a 03 Polaris 600 for a Doo
600 HO or 500ss
How is the gas mileage on the 600? The new Polaris only gets 8-9 mpg is doo better

I know the 500 is a 600 (597) so I hope it will be as quick as my current 600???

SDI would be a good choice but to much $$$

Ideas please?

If not the SDi go for the 500ss, no ring flaking issues or any other crap, This motor is bullet proof, my old mans 00 formula 600 (same block) had 9000+km and we never did a thing to the motor
I would keep the polaris for another season and buy a 2008 doo when they should be coming out with the rev generation II chassis!
definately better milage with the 500ss but bit more top end with the 600ho, up to 65-70 not much diff. I have 600ho renegade and get about 10mpg., my brother has 500ss and gets about 15mpg, buddies SDI gets about 17mpg
If you are looking for value and not interested in X packages the 500ss is a great sled and best value. If you want a X package the 500ss does not offer one. If you plan to go mod happy, use a larger track, or ride in the mountains the 600HO is the better option. I wouldn't worry too much about rings anymore, fixed in 05. Few carbs tweaks and a good clutch kit will get you 12-14 mpg on the 600HO.
I would go with the 600 H.O... They have had a bad reputation in the past 2 seasons with ring issues, but they have changed piston and ring manufacturers as i understand... If you are not worred about speed then go with the 500ss... Another issue is resale value, the SDI caosts more up front, but you will get more out of it too that you would the H.O. or the SS..

Maybe that SDI isn't really that bad of a deal after all..

And as for 08' there will be a new chasis, but no one knows what Doo will do??? Totally new chasis i doubt, most likely a revised Rev platform...

We shall see, and good luck to you with whatever choice you make..

I have both.... LOVE MY 600ho and the 500SS is a great sled too!! The gas milage on the 600 Ho is not any better(non sdi)than the polaris that you are comparing it too??... The 500SS will give you better gas milage.
The 500SS(AKA 600) does keep up real well with the 600ho.... The ride is quite a bit different.... it depends on what kind of riding you doo...
If you go with the 500SS buy the Adrenaline PKG.. don't buy the trail... my .02

the 500ss also is clutched pretty well stock and the 600HO well isn't, You want it to keep up with a 600 xc SHHHH wow I am gonna get smacked i don't know if I see that happening not in a straight like but in the twisties you should be fine. 0-70 it will keep up or feel better with the 500ss niehter of these have a great top end but are great trail sleds, I got 12.5 MPG with my HO last year 112 miles in 8.7 gallons. course I didn't pound the crud out if it as it was mostly breakin riding only have 526 miles on the sled.
