Cried once and purchased the Keweenaw jacket last season to attempt to stay warm in -30F temps and wind chills.

Klim philosophy is all about layering, so you have to do that properly to make the products work.

Having said that, I found myself feeling a cold draft under my bicep area while traversing open fields on the coldest days last season.

Looking at that area of that jacket, you will notice very minimal insulation in and around the pit zipper area, resulting in the cold that I felt.

My layering ensemble was base:Mid-weight Cabela's poly razmatazz underwear(good stuff), sub-mid:long sleeve heavy T-shirt, middle layer:fleece zip up jac-shirt. Three layers under the Keneewaw jacket total.

I was not cold all the time by any means, just in extreme windy conditions and only under my arm.

My point here is not to talk you out of the jacket, in fact it is a great product. Just that it in and of itself is not a silver bullet against the extreme cold.

I second the keewenaw as a single piece having the most insulation, Klim says its there warmest coat in the description. But there are other combos you can wear that are warm as well ( base, mid layer combined with an outer jacket maybe with less insulation ) . I use klims Valdez shell with base and mid layer for warm days and keewenaw with base layer on cold days

You will be warmest if you layer - start with a gore tex uninsulated shell and add a base layer and then fleeces.

I use a Klim Storm parka and smart wool base layer with fleece on top. Never cold and you can add and subtract layers as needed.

I also find multiple layers to be more flexible in movement than thicker layers.

2nd that... I ride with storm shells. Depending on how cold it is go with cabelas silk base layers then the Everest or Inferno pants. For upper body, Cableas or underarmor and then a fleece mid layer.

The Everest pants are great for when it is really cold. Nice thing is you can and or take off layers as your riding changes.

Like other's have said, focus on smart layering.

Maybe your existing outer suit is sufficient, WITH the proper base and mid layer(s)???? I'd spend the $$ on layering before the outer suit.

I'm not an expert, but here's what I've done.......

BASE LAYER: No cotton, including the socks, against the skin. Moisture wicking purpose built stuff.....lots of options for this.....Un Armour, Cabelas, RU Outside, Klim, etc etc etc. Search here for socks and read up....Klim, etc have some good ones.

MID LAYER: Again, no cotton. I use Klim Everest pant (heavy fleece), and a quality, heavy top for the upper body......fleece for me. Klim Everest jacket is an example, but you don't have to use that one in my opinion. You just want a quality fleece piece. If real cold, maybe a simple fleece on the upper from Wal Mart, THEN the quality fleece over that.

OUTER LAYER: Most things name brand and within 5 or so years old, maybe even older, should work if your laying is good....imo.

Keweenaw bibs, Klim Artic boots, tee shirt, sweatshirt, skidoo fleece, skidoo X-team jacket and BV2s Helmet. Everything warm except hands I need to find something warmer than my skidoo 2 in one gloves. I might have to break down and get a set of gauntlets. :angry_old:

X2. I also wear a shell jacket (Klim Valdez) and have never been cold. Layering is the key and I agree 100%, multiple layers are more flexable and more comfortable than thick, bulky layers. After wearing a shell jacket I won't go back to an insulated jacket again. There's a huge misconception that you can't be warm in a shell jacket but it's all about the layering. Plus, when it comes to spring riding, you can simply cut back on the layers.

x2-x3-x4 as to what was said above.

I have the valdez jacket and the togwotee bib for outer layer, and the GTX boots.

Mid layer: Everest fleeces --pants, vest, jacket, etc.

base layer: whatever klim calls it.

last year riding in UP in -5F temps (so UP trail speeds) I didn't get cold at all. the key is to figure out what the right combo is for you. is nice to be able to toss a vest, or extra fleece in your pack too.

100% agree layer layer layer!! If you feel you need a liner in you jacket make sure it is removeable. I have been riding the last 10 years with shells as an outer layer never been cold and have riden in -35. Before I switch to the layering I had fullblown leather gear and still have it hanging in the closit. I was very warm too warm on most days I would sweat then later in the day get cold because my gear was wet. The layers just feel lighter than a heavy bulky insulated jacket and bibs.

Last year I rode a few times when it was -20 below zero.

Under Armor 4.0 base.

Klim Jersey

Klim Everest mid layer.

Klim Tomahawk jacket (shell)

Bottoms -

Under Armor

Klim Everest pant

Klim Tomahawk pants (shell)

The only thing that was cold was my hands. And they were REAL cold. lol

Gauntlets will solve that problem.

But its amazing what is possible with a NON insulated jacket and pant!

I get cold with my Klim Inferno mid and Tomahawk shell on my street bike!

I wear KLIM base layer and vector pants on lower body in sub zero weather and have been fine. Other than a zipper that exploded the vector pant is the best pant I've thrown money at in my riding career. Little turned off by KLIM last year dealing with the zipper issue. I dealt with an awful women in customer service. It was resolved but I had to scream a little.

Upper body KLIM base, inferno mid, and Valdez parka.

Keweenaw or Vector Parka and Keweenaw bibs is a good combo for maximum warmth.

For base layers Klim now offers 3 different layers depending on your type of riding and tolerance to cold.

Aggressor 1.0

Aggressor 2.0

Aggressor 3.0

1.0 being the lightest weight of the base layer.

I wear the same stuff except I wear a pair of fleece pants instead of the under armor and can usually just get by with a Klim jersey and mid layer. I also wear a pr of Klim Boots and socks, my feet stay warm and dry. IMO the only stuff that Klim that they fall short on is their gloves. Got a pair and they are cold. Trying a pr of Doo grip gloves this year.
