Looking to buy some new socks this season, my favorite Ski Doo socks that have lasted many moons, are gonna need replacing soon. I've always liked them, they're thick, and most importantly stay up on your calf, instead of sliding down and wadding up in your boot; man I hate it when that happens....

I have a few different pairs of Cabelas brand socks. All are excellent for not sliding down. They have many choices, from lightweight to heavy. I really like the mid weight ultimax, they do an excellent job on moisture transfer and your feet stay warm all day. Rode last year 12 hrs with 800gr goretex boots, it never got above -8F and my feet were never an issue.

It's nice to try a few different weights with your boots, you can make them fit nearly perfect with the correct weight sock.

I wear a base layer synthetic polyester sock that I think I bought at REI. I always wear these.

Over that base sock a mix of Darn Tough socks:

Mountaineering sock for extremer negative temp days where plan to trail ride more

Ski sock that is over the calf for off trail days or off trail during day then swap for night

Wear usually a hiking lower cut for racing XC ditches and higher cut for lake races

DT's are warrantied for life and all I wear really and only socks I will buy or allow to be gifted. You wear one out they replace it no questions asked and made in Vermont, US. Basically call them all $25 a pair. Stay feeling comfy a very long time!

For sledding I run a Klim boot, boots you wear matter with what socks you run. Use same sock setup snowboarding with K2 boots but less say snowshoeing in a lighter timberland boot as your stead working.

I always baggie up a spare set of both layers of socks and put in my Linq bag, Many a times I swap them out trail side after a day off trail transitions to a long ride into the night. Funny when people cruising by asking of your ok as you swap out your socks. Also had more that one friend get stuck in a spring fed area and get water over the boots.

Also depends where you ride, Minnesota is a lot colder that Idaho and a lot more trail riding which is just colder in all aspects.

But seriously DT's all the way! I'd run a ski sock out there and why not get one that if wears out they will send you a new pair vs buying another pair in a year or two.

Enjoy!

Personally I gave up trying to find a sock that would not eventually bunch up in your boot when actively riding, so for the last 10 years or so I've only wore basic ankle socks. Mock me if you must but, haha, but the way I see it if you bought the right boot the sock shouldn't really matter.

I wear ski socks. Super warm, shaped for my toes (left and right socks), wick away sweat and keep my feet warm. I wear Klim boots. On really cold days I put my ski boot batteries and insoles in my ski-doo boots. I usually keep the batteries on the lowest setting at -30C and am warm. I find it's important to start the day with warm feet so they stay that way all day, so I always put warm feet into warm boots when I start each day.

I wear thick wool boot socks that goes up to my upper calf just below the knee. They never fall down. I will find out the brand. I bought mine at Fred Meyer store and a local clothing store named Sweeney's.

I just found out what brand they are. They are Fox River Outdoorsox Extra Heavyweight Mid Calf Boot socks 84% wool, no cotton #7267 made in the USA. They are warm, durable and stay in place on your foot and leg. I wear them in all of my boots (I own 5 different pairs of boots.)

I wear a thin "dress sock" which I believe is polyester/nylon or something like that.........which comes up high and over my calf.....does a nice job of holding my base layer long john of sorts made from the same material in place......then over that sock I wear a "smart sock" which could be a brand name I'm not sure....but in combo they are very warm and comfortable without adding too much bulk.....

What wasn't asked but I will add is the boot I wear......it's the same boot as I wear hunting as it's a gortex so it's breathable as I believe that is just as important as which sock you choose........as you can wear the warmest sock on the market but if your feet sweat and can't breath it does you no good as now your feet get an stay cold....

It's not the one thing you wear to stay warm it's the combination of layers and the material they are made of that does....

Don't take it personally but I'd rather walk on glass than ever go back into an REI, felt like a whore in church the way I got the stare down there. Wasn't even wearing my Doo cap.. must be there psychic ability to sense a motor head

I was looking at heat holders, there was a positive write up on them on snowmobile.com a while back. The price point is pretty good (15.00) compared to the usual ridiculously overpriced Doo/Klim offerings

What about boots guys I never thought of specialty sock. I just wear Baffin Boots good to a minus 130 or 140 wind chill I have never had cold toe heck I have forgotten to take the liners out and all wet I still do not get any cold in my feet. Now that I have learned about socks I will look into them
