What paperwork do I need to have?

First time ever selling a sled and I am getting ready to list it. Its a '02 MXZ 600. What sort of paperwork do I need to sell it? I never got anything that looks like a title after paying it off. Just a letter from the bank stating it was paid off. I have the original bill of sale, maintenance records etc. Can I just create an agreement paper that both I and the buyer sign off on?

registration? this will transfer ownership at SOS.

If I remember, I had to give them my registration card, but I traded my '00 and '02 into dealers. I never got anything resembling a title when I paid either one of them off (or my '05) either.
