What oil to use?

Hey fellas just picked up a 2006 Summit 600 HO SDI. Maybe you guys can give me a few pointers on what the best oil to run in it is? I read the manuals suggestions but is there any other brand that performs better or equal for less price? This is also my first post.

Lots of people use Klotz, blue marble, or redline. If you want one that smells good go with Klotz. Im using the ski-doo stuff at the moment but plan on switching to klotz or redline.

Hello there,

I have used blue marble for about 3 years. 2 in my 02 Summit 700 and one in my 06 summit 800.
What did it for me is when I read a report that a guy used it in a new Polaris sled and ran it for somewhere between 2000 & 2200 miles that year (can't remember the corrrect miles or year of the test). When he tore down of the engine he found about very little of the oil & gunk that that would normaly be in a 2 cycle eng with that many miles on it. And the engine had almost "O" wear on it. Again, much less that a sled with that many miles on it should have. Also on the 02 my plugs went from black to the nice brown color that they should be. And for whatever reasion I can not explain. It used less oil..... And it smokes and smells less to boot!! Also the milage went up a bit.

My vote is for Blue Marble!

Take care

I use amsoil but most of todays oils are good. But on dynotech they tested blue marble on the dyno and found that it lost power. Also in the new snow teck mag they have had two of there selds running on it and one had a crank bearing go and the other set up the pistons. The best thing to do is run a good synthetic like brp, amsoil, spector, klotz. Just remember that there is no hero of oils a motor can still have problems no matter what oil you run. I hope this helped.
I run Amsoil syn. (Dominator) I think have for a few seasons. I also hear blue marble is good stuff and the OEM Ski-Doo XPS is suppose to be good also. They all seem to be about the same $$ but the Skidoo stuff is like 35/gallon.
I run the Polaris VES II. Bought a 16 gallon drum last year and still have plenty left. Smells alot better than the doo stuff too.
If you use the search button you will find several threads on this site.. with 10 or 12 pages on what oil to use...you can read for days...

Do we have to discuss this? Seems like everyone likes to though as they all chime in ... there is a tread on this two or three times a year...

I am not trying to rag on you it's just that you can find more info then you want if you use the search feature... here are a couple of the long threads on oil that I just found using the search button...

Oils...

More on oils..

These are just a couple of hundreds of threads on oil..
You mean 2 or 3 times a month!

I've seen and heard of people with "The Best Oil Known to Man" cost anywhere from $15/gal to $40 and some like the smell, others think their butt dyno is the way to know, others claim because their sled has never burned down... and so on and so on.

Use what is available with the proper requirements for your engine. BRP has their user manuals online now and you can check what they recommend. Mineral, Synthetic, Semi-Syn, Ash based, Ashless, etc.

If you decide to change oil from what you're running now, make sure either

A. you test it in another container mixed together for a while to ensure they don't gum up or react weird.

Or

B. Just drain the current oil tank and put fresh in.

This is known as the October oil wars. This is that special time of the year when most of the mods are finished or at least all of the decisions for them have been made. We've posted all of last years pics. Asked 10 times "when will the new sleds be at my dealer". And after watching intently for anything in a white color from goose down to fireplace ash falling from the sky that "could be snow !!". All we have left to rail about is: My oil is better than yours. I know a guy who has a cousin who has a housekeeper that read an article the Blue marble siezed up the bowel movement of a bull moose.

I LOVE IT!!! LOL (I just learner that one) It's better than the new season of sitcoms. OK sorry for the distraction so, back to the action live from the................

"OCTOBER OIL WARS"
Anything Synthetic should be fine. But my vote is Amsoil all the way! But I havent had any problems with Doo oil either. And its always at a local gas station too. I have heard good thoings about Kolts, and redline. Stick with synthetic, And I'm a firm beleiver that a guy should stay with one oil for the life of a motor. I think this makes a big difference. IMO.... Goodluck with it tho?

KLOTZ
ran over 7000 miles on 2000 mxz700 no motor problems ran just as hard on the first day as the day i traded it i hope 1000 motor is as good but will not run any other oilbut klotz!!!!
When we were at the Ski Doo showing, they told us that they were recommending running mineral oil in the new 800R motor. Said that it worked the best for that motor.
I ran Klotz last year with no problems what so ever (even though it is Ashless), Never fouled a plug, and the raves remained extremly clean. I'm running redline this year as I got a pretty good deal on a couple cases (Redline,Klotz, Amsoil.... They're all good oils that keep the inside of your engine clean and well lubed)
