Hey all just picked up a HJC CLX 4 VApour...Snell and DOT approved....was looking at a less expensive helmet for the wife but not sure on the saftey of just a DOT approved helmet.

What are the differences?

In reality, any head impact strong enough to meet either certifications threshhold will more than likely be more than the rest of the body can handle. Please dont ask me to explain. Dont get the ultra-cheapest, but you dont need to overdoo it either.

Speaking of which, why dont the riding smilies have helmets on? A Raspberry beret and an orange hat dont offer much protection. LOL

I have always been happy with my HJC CL series as long as you get a electric shield. I have a CL-12 now and so does my wife.

Only use open face because of Mtn. riding seems to work better!
