I just picked up a new to me first snowmobile which came with the two up seat in the attached photo. It also came with some hand holds but no backrest. I would like to know if there is a backrest that I can buy or will I have to purchase the complete 1+1 seat system? I appreciate any tips you may share because that seat system is a bit spendy but it is what it is. Sorry I don’t currently have any better photos. The sled is a 2017 Renegade x 1200.

First of all, that is a very sweet ride, talk about a great first snowmobile! 1200, XS chassis in Adrenaline X with quick-adjust? Lots of guys I think wish Doo still made a sled like that.

That 2-up seat doesn't look like a Ski-Doo seat, looks like an aftermarket one. If there is any branding or labelling on it, suggest googling that company to see if they have a backrest.

If you're looking to fully replace it, as you say the ski-doo 1+1 with backrest is a great system but not cheap.

The markings on the seat to be bombartier, so ski doo. I believe it to be very similar to the one in the attached screenshot, part number.860202037. The difference between the two that noticed is the width of mine is 16”. The mounting hardware couldbe the same. I assume it to be but have not removed the cover to verify. I want to believe I could use the backrest and hand hold portion of the 1+1 system and it should work. My worry is the seat mount location and the link mount might both want to occupy the same real estate. I may have the go with the entire 1+1 system but I’d rather not as long as I can have a solid backrest. Removable would be preferred but solid is required.

Thank you for the compliment on the sled. I must have gotten lucky, my only requirements were can have a two up ride, four stroke motor and fair value. My eight year old daughter and have taken a few rides this year with my father’s two up, four stroke arctic cat and both had fun. I tried to mimic that sled based on why my dad chose it, reliability and wind protection, plus in order to take my kid the two up seat was an additional requirement for me. I knew I got lucky just finding one at a fair price in good shape.

Your 1+1 Seat is the system from the original XP sleds... This was replaced long ago by the current LinQ 1+1 seats. The backrest was an additional option at that time.
These units are only available used and are difficult to find.... The photo is one of these 1+1 mounted on a '09 Renegade. 2nd Photo is complete seat which was sold here about 4 months ago.

My understanding is the basic Seat and Backrest for the XU Sleds still uses the original design and that Backrest would be compatible (860200060). The down side is it is almost $400.

The linq 1+1 doesn’t work with this seat, unfortunately. The seat blocks the backrest’s mounting block’s location. The seat without a backrest must be able to serve a purpose but trail ringing with an 8 year old isn’t one of them. I will be replacing the whole thing with a linq 1+1 system. I got lucky and found a few available locally both used and new. The new ones just came in stock so if your looking for one, it might be a good time to check.

Old Newbie: Good choice. I installed the 1+1 seat system on my 2016 MXZ Sport a few years back. It swaps out with the single seat in seconds. Ok, the rear back rest might take up to a minute. I find the 1+1 seat bottom to be my perfered seat even when riding alone. I only use the back rest when it has a passenger. The lip on the seat bottom, just before the back seat helps keep my 'rear end' in place, from sliding too far back. And the seat has just the right amount of soft / firm feel.

I am looking for a deal on the bottom seat for my 'new to me' 2016 MXZ TNT. But I'm low on cash after all the suspension upgrades, so waiting on that.
