I'm looking to purchase a utility sleigh to tow behind my sled.
Looking for something fairly rugged and sturdy.

All I've been able to find so far is the Pelican trek sport 94 as in pic.
I've seen the Equinox big bogan but don't know where it is sold.
(did a search on here but couldn't find anything)

Anyone have any experience-recomendations for a good quality rugged tow utility sleigh?

I have one similar to what you have linked there, but I think that I would much prefer one of the solid UHMW sleighs like some guys here make themselves.

I don't know how long I would expect the hitch to not pull out of the plastic toboggan.
The one pc jobbies are much more bulletproof.

There is a recent (this year) thread about building these, but I can't find it. Da****all!*

* Seriously? "dash-it-all" there, is that more better?

But here is this:

I have one of those Red Sleds.. it works pretty good. The tonneau cover stays on as long as nothing is protruding above the top, and it can handle some pretty high speeds - I've had it up to 60mph.
I did do a mod where I added the separators ( template included in box( and some extra tie downs inside with some looped rope.. I found that there is no way to secure the load without some sort of tie down.

Here’s the Equinox website CARGO SLEDS – Page 2 – Equinox
I have a Trail as well as the Pelican in your picture. I like the Equinox Trail boggan far better, though it’s an inexpensive and can be tipped when running through the bush off trail. A friend has the optional front plastic cover which is an excellent addition.

I’ve used similar sleighs behind smaller machines. I’d recommend using flat bar or even a 1x3” as a backer to spread the load where hitch attaches to the sleigh. In groomed trails you’re good, until you aren’t 😀.

I typically drill 3/8 holes all around the rim of the sleigh so you can use bungees or rope to lash things down. Carry rope so if your hitch fails you can macgyver a get-home solution.

Also, in your case of infrequent trips, a thin plastic or even cardboard snow shield zip tied to the hitch keeps track snow out of your sleigh. Heck, I’ve used spruce boughs to keep snow from burying my skimmers.

Here’s a few pics
This cheap little sled has a 1x3” backer and has been abused horribly without failure so far. We pull it behind vintage machines on the lake or fields.

This one is similar to yours, we use it with a rope for hiking and with the bar hitch behind the Elan or hitched behind a bigger sleigh. Note the bungee hanging, we often use cardboard on the way in on a fishing trip to keep snow off our stuff and you can use it around a hole to lie on, or whatever.

Here’s a quick fix when hauling firewood, good for an afternoon - at low speed🤣

Here’s another one I’m preparing for fishing this winter. On a solo trip I sometimes take the Elan and need a little skimmer to haul auger, etc. I left the rope on so I can unbolt the hitch and pull by hand. I’ll probably put a bar across the hitch bars, or might screw a light piece of plywood on for strength.

Great ideas. One thing that is a huge issue with our fishing group. Is slush. We get alot of slush in Northern Ontario lakes. I have found that with the sleigh hitchs attached lower in the front of the sleigh helps the front of the sleigh stay up. The Pelicians are great sleighs but in deep powder or slush they r like a bulldozer. The Otter sleighs seem to pull up in the front better. Just something to think about if that was to be an issue..

ok so i'm not the only one that had problems with snow from the track going into my pelican sled! I solved that problem by mounting a piece of UHMW in the place that UnoMas had the cardboard. also doubles as a cutting board when prepping fish for a quick meal. Another mod i did was replacing the bolts that attach the arm to the sleigh with pins to allow for quick disassembly when putting it back in the trailer at the end of the day
