Three-Way Sled Deal

The truck mechanic here at work has been trying to sell his Fusion 900 since last season. He is looking for around $5,000.00 for it. He had someone call him on it last night and wanted to trade a mid-90's Karavan 3 place open trailer with a 1997 or 1998? Yamaha SRX 700 PLUS $3,000.00 cash for the Fusion. He says the SRX is a one-season old rebuild with about 5K miles on it, it's piped, clutched, and has a new track and bogies on it. He says the trailer is in good shape but could use new plywood. It has a pull-out ramp and is drive on/drive off. Mike (mechanic) told the guy he wasn't interested because he has decided to get out of snowmobiling and concentrate on his motorcycle. When Mike told me about the deal, I told him it may be worth my while to have him do the swap, and I would give him the extra $2,000.00 to make up the $5K and I'd take the SRX and trailer off his hands. I am figuring that having a spare sled would not be such a bad thing, and I'm in the market for a new trailer right now, and I NEED a two place (minimum). I was hoping for an enclosed trailer, but new they are selling for close to $3K around here. With this deal, for $2K I could get the trailer and a spare sled. Besides, Mrs. C-Rev has decided to try out sledding this winter. For that, I'll let her take my 500SS and I will ride the SRX. I don't think she'll be ready to handle a worked triple with no suspension. At least not yet.

Any thoughts?

Jerry

Heck you could buy the sled and trailer for that price and then resale and make some money.

$2000 is definitely worth it for what you are getting. Make the 3-way deal happen.

doesn't sound like too bad of a deal even if you had to do rings or the such on the srx wouldn't be too bad. It is too bad that a poorly executed sled had sriven somebody away from the sport tho. Good luck the Mrs. will def like it mine bought a new sled for herself after riding once with me is great Q T.

Gotta love a three way??
Is it the SX-R or SRX? They get easily confused...did they make an SRX in 1997?

Either way...jump on it!

I think it's not a bad deal but I don't think it's quite as good as everyone is making it out to be. A mid 90s sled with 5K+ miles on it would probably fetch $1,500 tops at a swap meet. And the trailer itself sounds a little beat up if it needs a new wood deck, it would probably fetch about 600 or 700 bucks tops at a swap meet. I'd check the sled and trailer out in person if I was you before I agreed to doo the deal. Just my 2 pennies.

So the conFusion was such a pos it made the guy want to get out of sledding???

The guy claims his dealer offered him $2K for the sled and trailer on a trade toward a new Fusion, so your numbers may not be far off. I would definately like to see/start the sled in person before making the deal.

Cool, i'd bet it's the SX-R. They were rather gutless stock for a 700 triple (triple cylinder, single piped, conservative clutching, beaten in a drag by just about all 600 twins of the day) but this one sounds like it's been worked nicely so that won't be an issue.

The dealer probably wasn't offering him anything. They were just going to discount the new Fusion and sell it for around cost and then the used sled and trailer would be pure profit. And the dealer would definately get a lot more than swap meet prices for the used stuff. They'd probably sell the sled for like 2500 and the trailer for 900.

1998 was the first year for the SRX. SX-R came after that, as it was just called the SX for a while.

Unless both are in really bad condition, this sounds like an OK deal. The 98 SRX had a lot of crank problems, so you might want to make sure that has been checked. I had a 99 and it was a great sled for me. I had almost 7,000 miles on mine when I sold it and never had a problem.

For $2k, you can't go wrong.
