Welcome to The Life of a Freeride - Build, Blog and Review.

This thread will form a continuous report of my experience with a 2016 Freeride 137 800 ETEC with 2.25inch track, it will include information on the sleds factory features, accessories and any issues that may arise. Whenever possible I will include videos and photos that will include how to's and tips as well as show times when I get things wrong. I hope that this thread will be useful to other riders and I'll ask that we try to stay on track with the topic. I will maintain a 'table of contents' of sorts in the first post that can utilized if this gets long, I will also update this post as I add items sled and or break stuff.

In order to get started, i'll let you know that I've never been more excited for winter to come, each year i'm asked to write a prediction for the forthcoming season, the previous two winters (13-14 & 14-15) I was bang on - here is my prediction for this coming season - Winter Forecast 2015-2016. - Lets hope it turns out!

So whats different from this thread compared to all the other build threads? not much... however i'm sure you will agree if you're subscribed to my youtube channel that i'm known to push the limits a bit and i'm just as happy to share my perils as my successes. I will be adding certain accessories that suit my riding style here in Northern Ontario, but will also work for me should I ever take a trip out west or into eastern Quebec.

If you have any questions or want to see something please post below and i will do my best to answer.

I took delivery on August 14th 2015, my dealer was super awesome to get this ready for me during the middle of the summer. I was more than impressed with the look, fit and finish of the sled - I had never seen the 2016 Freeride in person when I ordered, so I was thrilled of how well the colours turned out - its going to be hard to change the way this sled looks as its darn nice already.

first order of business after getting it home was to install the ice scratchers - I'm not sure why I chose to do this first but I had to install something. A had a few beads of sweat drip down my forehead as i drilled the first holes larger in the rear skid to accommodate the scratchers.

Nah you'll be fine, I'll rip trails with TNT and I have a 146 x 2.5" just makes it more fun :D
down here closer to the equator , the only time i can take the treeride trail riding is after a fresh snow , other than that they are snirt , hard pack and ice , the 7.5 shapers bite and the track just spins . thats why i have the trail sled for down here , and why i come up your way so often . trail riding the treeride up in cochrane after 6 or more inches overnight is a blast .

Tnt , i was not aware you had to remove wheels for the doo scratchers , i have had the duraflex on the treeride for 3 seasons now and have worked perfect , no wheels removed. I agree that sled looks awesome , love the colour , wish i could have ordered my 154 this year . i will keep checking the lotto tickets .

I wasn't aware either until I got them home and went to install them. I did look at all the ice scratcher options including the ski mounted ones but liked how the rail mounted ones worked. The duraflex look like they work well, but i don't like how they hook onto the rails - especially with powder coated rails (although i did read on here that people have made mounting posts / brackets for them)

This mornings video is some shots of under the hood of the freeride, I have an instructional video coming on how to remove the top panels, air box and gauges that will follow in the coming days.

Does the ice scratcher instructions from BRP tell you remove the rear idler wheel and to "drill" the mounting hole out to make it larger? Seems like BRP should have missed something here on designing these scratcher's? I'm ok with it and don't mind doing it but drilling holes in a new skid rails for a factory add on seems odd?

I think a lot of people are missing the big picture. If you look in the catalog, doesn't it mention that the tunnel mount scratchers are for the XS, and the rail mount for the XM...which wouldn't have front idler wheels in those locations? Well; the Freeride 137" is using essentially the same setup as a 137" Renegade. It's just that people have found a 'workaround' for the rail mounted scratcher install, which SkiDoo may have not intended.

Yup, I understand your point and agree with it. Again, I would drill out my new rails on my 16 137 XM-RS Freeride for my scratcher install, just wanted to make sure it was in the instructions but in any case I've decided to have the dealer install them when it arrives, rather let them drill it out, LOL.

The above is correct - the rail mounted ice scratcher is designed for the 147 and longer rear skids and not for the 137 and shorter, thus some slight modification is needed if you want to use them. I would be interested even though its too late for me if someone can find a better location for the rail mounted scratcher, this was the best i could come up with the smallest amount of modification needed.

Ok, up next is a little video of the trunk and glove box - I had a bunch of requests on youtube via comments to show the trunk and glove box and the approximate storage - this video is very simple but gives you an idea of these handy features.

the trunk is perfect for a few tools, a hat or gloves and the glove box fits a pair of goggles nicely.I wouldn't put my cell phone or emergency gear in either compartment for the simple reason that if for some reason you get separated from your sled you wont have them on you.

Ok thanks again for the help, still waiting for my 137 freeride but can't wait to sit on it even though there is no snow yet. If you figure out how adjust the KYB 40's a tutorial video would be nice, I'm sure there are some good write ups on this somewhere but a video would help. Thanks again for starting this thread!

would the glove box provide any heat to help dr/melt frozen/fogged goggles like the arctic cat one?

No, not a chance.
I recommend some small weather stripping around the lid closure and then some thicker stripping on the sled between the windshield mounting holes. There is a ton of air that comes up through the gap between the sled and shield base that carries cold air and snow dust to the glove box area.
