Here is a rundown of the latest diesel news in the auto industry...

• Honda. The Japanese automaker has unveiled a simple diesel that it says is as clean as gasoline engines. It could come to the U.S. market in a yet-undisclosed model as soon as 2009.

• Volkswagen. Diesel versions of the New Beetle, Golf and Jetta won't be made after the 2006 model year, although the company plans to make enough Jettas to last through March, spokesman Keith Price says. New cleaner diesels will most likely be introduced at a later date.

• DaimlerChrysler. The current Mercedes-Benz E320 CDI diesel sedan will be replaced by the $52,325 E320 Bluetec, which launches Oct. 16. The Bluetec has the same engine but adds a particulate filter and other exhaust features that clean the emissions. Jeep will start selling its' new 3.0L Mercedes diesel in the new 2007 Grand Cherokee in Jan 2007 and most likely in the new Liberty in 2008.

• General Motors. GM plans a 50-state-compliant V8 turbodiesel in big pickups that will meet stiffer 2010 emissions standards. It will use urea to lower emissions.

• Ford Motor. The 2008 Super Duty F-Series pickup will have a 6.4-liter V8 diesel that the automaker says is the cleanest and quietest it's ever built

Love those diesels....

thats nice but gas here is 2.51-2.63 a gallon and diesel is 2.97 a gallon, im not going to pay about 5grand more for a diesel that gets the same or a little better milage when diesel is about 50 cents more a gallon

Yuck, the 05 and 06 chev look way better than that boxy looking thing. Its starting to look like a Nissan and Toyota-( ok, I know, here comes all the B.S.)
I say its about time, the US is way behind the curve on diesel use. Its my understanding In europe its darn near the primary method of powering thier vehicles. IMO if diesel were to become more mainstream, the fuel and vehicle prices would drop.
The liars in power claim that diesel is bought in 10 year contracts (futures) and that is what has been driving the price up in the US.

Who knows...

That new 6.4 in the Ford is looking sweet to me...but I'd take a 150 with a diesel first.

Both Ford and Dodge are looking to put a diesel in their 1/2 ton trucks by 2009.
