Going to upgrade soon and think I want to go with a 3 inch lug. I've only had 154's in the recent past and don't want to go longer for when I jump. Shorter track = more forgiveness on landing if you land with the tail low.

But… is the T3 154 hard to keep the skis down? I already have the limiter strap tighten one hole with my 154x2.5.

I have the 154 T3 and it blows my mind everytime I ride it. I can't imagine a 163 or longer... you'd need some super deep light powder to slow it down... with the 3" I can go slow in the tight areas and not get stuck.. I feel like it's better than a 163 2.5 lug

I love my homemade 154 t3. But yes it likes to pick the front end up. Only issues is trying to climb with 174s it's definitely noticeable. I'm making some suspension changes and hopefully keep the skis down. Defiantly a blast in the trees though where I ride mostly, buddies with 174s complain once in a while it's a handful in tight spots.

^ I guess that's why the 163 is the middle ground. Lots still jump the 163 tho ...

Square inches of paddle in contact with the snow.
154 x 2.5 380
154 x 3 456
163 x 2.5 420
163 x 3 504
174 x 3 552
So, your feeling would be correct by 36 square inches.
Calculations based on number of rows (19, 21, 23)x 8" x height.

I got a 154 2.5" xm & 163 3" t3 they are both great but for different conditions.... The 163 3" is awesome in deep powder but if not powder the 3" track seems like its wearing itself out.....so if your always breaking trail in the deep go 163....if not stick with the 2.5" 154...
