Sledhead Racing and Smittys Speed Works has teamed up and made a slick T-stat Delete kit for the '03 to '06 600 and 800 series engines, probably others too!
What do you get for 39.99 shipped?
You will get a new T-stat insert, block off plug, gasket, hose clamp and instructions, for those that don't trust themselfs!
lowering coolant temps will almays make more HP/TQ.....plus the added safety
of this kit eliminates (sp) the possibilty of the stock T-stat failing and
causing engine damage!! Just remember to allow a little more WARM up time when first starting out the day, or after a long break!!!!!!!!

Here is the kit, minus the hose clamp as of right now,

for some reason this doesn't seem like a good idea to me. These engines are designed to run at a certain temperature, that's why the thermostat is there. While an engine running to hot is definately not good it is equally not good to run it hard at too low of a temp. This is why you should always warm up the engine before running it hard. I don't remember the specifics but I do remember my IC Engines teacher explaining to us why it's not good to run any engine without a thermostat.
No offense, but it doesn't sound like a good idea to me either.

ran kelsey's head for the last two years without t-stat, no issues from lack of t-stat, i moniter the water temp. with gauge and the only diff. that i can see is that i consistently run several degrees lower than if i had one in, temp. does not jump all over the place and the notion that riding on the trail all day and then jumping into three feet of powder will burn me down is bunk, not gonna happen........water temps usually are around 119-123, and they are consistant from day to day riding
there quit a few top notch engine builders that recommend deleting the stat. one it highly prone to failure. its not if it fails its when is going to fail.and two by deleting it you force 98% of the coolant thru the cooler instead of it just returning it to the bottle, which lets all the coolant get to the same temp.
great job smitty and bj. m/o on the way

There's your answer, Revdog to the rescue.
The only thing you need to keep in mind, you NEED to give extra warm up time, not much, just a bit. And that goes with any sled with T-stat or not, can't throw the wood to a cold engine no matter what, just asking for problems. Ran mine last year with no T-stat, never a problem.

Why do you need to block off anything ? Cant you just gut the thermostat or use an ''o''-ring?

The Block-off seems
to be a Plug for the Coolant Return to the BOTTLE!

The stock stat has a disc that restricts the bypass line.. the bypass bleed plug serves this function...

The bypass allows coolant to bypass and flow when the stat is shut.. you don't want it bypassing at a large rate when the stat is open. But you need a small hole so that air will bleed out of the system and back to the coolant bottle.
