Starting sled after summarizing

2022 summit expert, I did the deal where it fogs the engine before summer. Started it up tonight and backfires and don't run to good. Basically probably just needs new plugs which isn't big deal, I have some. Question is do you usually put new plugs in every year, or was there another procedure I was supposed to follow on 1st start of the year? Want to make sure it isn't stuck in some mode where it's pushing extra oil.

After summarization motor will be really loaded down with oil. Upon first start up, let it sit and idle it Has to come up to full temp. Get the track off the ground and bring up some rpm, sometimes plugs can be fouled by summarization. You should be able to get a couple years out of them easy though. some of the newer sleds say 23 on up, seem to run a shorter summarization were maybe not as much oil is put into the motor as some of the earlier ones.

fresh gas makes a big difference. siphon out the old if there is good amount stored in the tank.

I have heard of people letting the sled run until it dies out on its own. Is that common? From my perspective, it seems dangerous to let it get so hot that the sled makes the decision to shut down.

I did the fogging procedure as well, and have not started it yet. I am debating on clearing it out ahead of the first ride or waiting until the first ride to even start it. I am not sure what is best in this case.

Mine started backfiring and died out before it was up to 80 degrees. It would start back up, but even putting ass end in the air and trying to clean it out would not work. Changed plugs and it runs fine. My opinion is I'd rather change the plugs on my doo in the garage, it's a task. Have to remove hood, and air boot.

I think you answered Cow's question in Post #1 with the procedure he was missing on first start. It is not always necessary, but sometimes it is.

plugs should easily last a couple of years if not more and me or my riding buddies have never had a summerization caused issue. sleds always start on first pull for the first start up of the season.
regarding pushing too much oil assuming the sled is out of break-in, all '22 e-tec oil pumps need to be checked becasue some or all came calibrated wrong from the factory and need to be fixed via BUDS at the dealership. mine was off quite a bit. call a dealer and run the VIN to see if it's been done or not.

30ish years & almost as many masheens (mostly new SC's).
I quit summerizing about 15 years ago. Start them about every 3 to 4 weeks, bring to temp, run on stand & shut down.
No screwing around with hard starting fouled plugs etc, say what you want, it has always worked for me (& always will).
I maintain the living hell out of my equipment in every other aspect.
If there is or was a question about my practices, I'm not the one posting a problem here because I haven't had them.
Good luck.

Yeah but...if you get a new machine almost every year...how do you know if there's any long term issues? You might not see anything, but failing to fog for 5 years in a row might start causing issues. Not saying it will, but it's hard to say it won't when you never keep them long enough to find out.

PS, I'm super jealous...I wish I'd been riding that long or could get a new rig that often!

15 seasons with etec. Have fouled zero plugs. Change them every 3 years or 6k miles. always summerize it. Had a blown up motor. Was shocked how clean inside of the motor was. Summerize system works.

2850 miles on these plugs in a 2015 Renegade BC 600-etec. Still ran okay once it was off idle, but I was starting to noticed that it was taking a second or two more to start and idled rough. Gap on the one on the left was .060, right .050.

Carbon/oil build up is from bringing it out of summerization mode and basically zero warm up, drive from shed to the garage (about 100').
I think I'm going to replace these more often. Probably go by mileage, 2000 miles. I put over 1000 miles on it in 2016-2017 winter, but only 1800 from 2017-2023.
