341 Views 6 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  VenomF150
Fixing my front susp. from last winters culvert mishap. Trying to get the splined shaft that attatches to the steering and attatches to the ski that runs through the trailing arm out. Any tricks on getting that darn thing out of there? I really dont want to have to buy a brand new one...

its giving me bunches of troubles

Thanks!

Yeah I got the snapring off, the knuckle off, and the ski off, but now im trying to get that splined shaft that runs inside the trailing arm out so I can stick it in my NEW trailing arm... any ideas? I hit it with a hammer a few times, and it just wont come out... is there a snap ring on the BOTTOM side of the trail arm too?
nope... only circlip there are is at the top.... if it is stuck it is either very very bent or very worn and binds on the bushings. Only way is to hammer it out downwards... use a lead or copper sledge when doing that to prevent damage to the splines.
Thats no fun... not having a good week.. took my secondary apart the other day, helix is cracked in two spots, just shelled out for new stirrup/trail arm mounts, and two new trailing arms... now i probably gotta get two new ski shafts... yippie

Nah... get them out and use a hydraulic press and get them straight again. No need to get new ones unless thay are cracked or so. However... bushings might be a recomended thing to replace with new ones.... it takes away alot of the sloppyness in the steering.

Yeah I already ordered new cups for the trailing arms, and new dampers, washers, basically all of the bushings, cups/anything that should be replaced due to wear.. spend about 80 bux with ingles this week
thinkin that dynamoe joe S4X kit is gonna gbe on order pretty quick here too... at least breaking stuff gives you a good excuse to mod
