Ski-Doo Covers

The past couple trailers I've had have been enclosed so I didn't buy a cover for my 04 until 06. I only used the thing twice and on the second time the thing ripped apart!!! I couldn't believe it, I've used covers in the past for years w/o any problems. The dealer just sent it in to a seamstress and had her re-stitch it. The problem is the cover is held together by single stitching when it should be double or triple stitched to handle the stresses of trailering. My question is has anybody else ran into the same issue and what did you do to fix the problem? What covers have people had good luck with on REVS? I'm now back to an open bed so I need to have a decent cover that will stay in one piece before the snow files which will hopefully be in about a month and a half

Nc…I have the SD intense cover ,,,I think,,,yellow and black, with Ski-Doo printed on the side, its like a nylon duffle bag material… its going on 3 yrs now, with no stitching coming out or that, its in decent shape, my sled w/this cover on, sets on the trailer ,(open w/salt shield) during the winter months, outside, and no problems.

I have heard that the nylon covers are not intended for trailering. The canvas ones are intended for trailering. I have seen a buddy's nylon cover rip to all hell when we were driving to the UP one time. The nylon ones are nicer because they are lighter and easier to clean but canvas is more durable. I hope that helps a little.

I have been using the Parts Unlimited "total cover" that covers the skis and suspension for the past 4 years. I have been very happy with the durability and performance. The best part is that they are $130.00 new. I have a Rev 440 and it fits like a glove

I accidentally ordered the nylon one but promtly returned it. I have one of the canvas ones with a built in underliner for the hood / windshield. I'm not too sure of the nomenclature off hand but I didn't get the one with the racing graphics or the full body one, I got the regular one. I think it's called the "intense" cover.
I've got 2 Doo covers and I lover both of them. No rips or pulled threads. Both fit like a glove, even after adding a 6" riser to one sled and a 7" to my 440.
A little pricey, but worth it. Look Sweet too.

I ordered this cover from Spanky's for around $120 shipped. Have yet to trailer with it, but seems to be a very nice, well-made cover. Has the felt lining on the inside of the cover to reduce scratching of the hood/windshield, reinforced areas for the trailering arms and where the grip ends go...also accommodates the 5 inch riser I have installed.
i use 2 covers, my super cover is awesome, although they fade quickly. the cheapo nylon one covers the gore tex doo one. as long as they fit tightly, they shouldnt whip in the wind and rip. now my boat cover is a different story

I have had my canvas cover rip the same way. 2nd or t3rd trip and the stitching just came undone
We've got the Intense covers, only use them in the winter, they sure are durable and well stitched.
Summertime I wash them, fold them up and store them away, sleds are covered with 2 two tarps each as the summer sun up here will fade and age a sled cover in one season (know this from experience).

If the cover goes around the skiis and susp is it hard to get around the tie down bars? Also, anybody got a pic of one? And how would it work with my mirrors? The doo covers have a velcroed pouch that can be pulled out for the mirrors.

I have only had one cover that didn't tear on me..... Covers were such a PITA b/c of stopping to tighten the straps so the cover didn't flap in the wind..... As you said I just dont think the seams are stitched enough when they make them!!
I hope to never get back to where I have to trailer on an open trailer....

I've owend just about every type of trailer out there. I think the "topper" trailers are a total PITA to deal with. The fully enclosed ones are nice but you pretty much need a 40-50K 3/4 ton turbo diesel to tow the darn things. That plus a paved place to park them otherwise they sink into the ground. They're also harder to hook up, you have to back up just perfect cuz you can't move them around by hand at all. So, if you got a diesel and a parking spot for the trailer they're great otherwise I think the best bet is going to the other extreme, an open bed 2 place tilt trailer. It's the inbetween ones that are a total hassle to deal with, removeable salt shields, jack knifing to unload, ramps, enclousres, etc... The nice part about the 2 place tilt trailers is that you can tow them with pretty much anything and loading and unloading is quick & easy. Most sleds have reverse now and even if they don't with those plastic ski glides all you have to do is simply lift the rear end and it will slide right off. The only downside is having to deal with covers again. That and of-course enclosed trailers provide better protection for the sleds and possible storage. But in the age of plastic skiis I think the protection thing is less of an issue. If you use a good cover and saltshield I would think the only parts you need to worry about are the suspension arms. Nothing that a quick wipe down with a damp cloth won't fix.

Ties bars first, then put cover on. This also helps with the freezing issues that you can be faced with on ski tie-downs...snow/water/crap can get into the clamp/screw and freeze them in place. With a cover all cover, these are protected.
As an update to this thread, I just picked up a Parts Unlimited cover from Dennis Kirk. Unfortunately it doesn't have the underliner for the hood / windshield. But...It is way more heavy duty than the Doo cover. Instead of single stitching it's triple and cross stitched and should be night and day more durable. Plus, it was only $90 versus what like 150-200 for the fall apart Doo covers.

I have an "intense" cover and it gets beat on with salt spray. I haven't had any problems yet. Just wash it in the spring.
Be careful of the cover you just bought. Not saying this will happen since I've nevered used that exact cover but.....the finish on the hood and windshield may get scuffed up if you are going to use it trailering from the wind sliding it back and forth. The material, if kinda coarse, will scrub the shine down on the hood and windshield will get hazy. This comes from experience. And nope, there wasn't sand imbedded in the material. Hope this helps you prevent a possible bummin experience.

I'm not too worried about it. The canvas is pretty smooth but I suppose if the cover was really loose it could whip around and "scuff" things up. Hopefully it will fit pretty snug. They do sell those "underwear" covers seperately. I think they're pretty cheap, like 20 bucks. I could always sew one into the bottom of the new cover if need be.

Snow Skinz covers are the absolute best cover made.... I wouldn't get anythong else.....
