Seat Upgrade

I am looking for a new seat for my 2005 MXZ 500ss. I have been told by many to buy a Boss Seat, but I also heard they are not cheep.... So now I'm lookin at a 440x seat...

So my questions are these... 1) is the Boss seat worth a lot of money? 2) How much would I be lookin at for a new 440X seat? and 3) what other options do I have??

Thanks!

Buy a Boss. $ 250 + for a used 440 seat in most cases, as compared to about $500 for a Boss, more expensive, but well worth it!!
Why is it worth it??
I would suggest looking in the classifieds for a used X seat.
-Good luck

is the X package seats any better?

I have an 07 X coming ... but I plan on swapping out the seat. I have the 1up seat from my 03 that I want to reuse ... but, you can't make the X 1+1up compatible unless you get the short seat conversion kit ($320+tax CA - thx BRP - so nice). I was planning on selling the original X seat either on ebay or here.
Why do you want a new seat? The 440x seat is no taller than stock, it is just more rounded and easier to move around on. I had a 04 440x seat on my 04 800X for a few years and have recently upgraded to a boss high rise hard tail. I wanted a taller seat so I went with the boss, it is way lighter than the 440 seat (and that seat is much ligher than either the stock X or standard rev seat) so it was a no brainer.

Yes, much firmer and better look

yup, got mine (HRHT) from randy... 486$ (us) delivered!

That is exactly why I want it...

I'm not interested in a higher seat... I only sit when I'm cornering....Standing the other 90% of the time.

I see what you're saying, I stand 75% of the time but wanted the higher seat so I could go even higher with my handle bars w/o making it too uncomfortable when I sit. I am now able to run a 10.5 inch riser which is awesome for standing and feels nice when sitting now with the boss seat. The boss seat is very trim on the sides and looks/seems like it will be even easier to move around on than even the 440x seat was.

you make perfect sense to me!

curious, with a 10.5" riser aren't you concerned with breaking the steering column? I was amazed at how much leverage the 2" riser added, 10.5 has to add an amazing amount of force...

There are others on the forum with higher bars and I've never heard anything about breaking steering stems, guess we'll see.
