The problem with most tablets is that they can be very difficult to see in bright situations. I've tried a bunch of different ones for my drone and have not had very good success. I now use my Android phone and I can see much better.
I use a Samsung tablet at work to run my golf course irrigation system and it is the most difficult thing to see in the sun. It’s almost useless on bright sunny days and that is when I’m using it the most.
I'm using the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active Pro. It's ruggedized, mostly waterproof and is sunlight readable (high-MIPS Screen).
We use SARTopo for mapping and tracking and it runs well.
I also run GAIA now and then.
The only issue i've run into is the on-board storage is limited at 64GB and most of the mapping programs won't allow you to download tiles to the SD card, only to the on-board memory. It fills up pretty quick when you download an entire county's Topo maps.
