RT Air intake

Has anyone tried pulling both airboxes out and running something similar to this?

http://www.timbersled.com/AirIntakeSystems.htm

Ive heard of a few different setups guys have tried.........pulling the outer airbox off and using Specialty sleds 200 dollar piece of air ducting, just putting a filter on the horn, gutting the current airboxs, the above setup.............

There is the arguement that these airboxs are specially designed to optimize airflow. Is it going to make that big of a difference to go to filters? It would drop about 10 lbs altogether, increase airflow/clutch cooling, and just look alot better.

Any thoughts.

I must be looking at that wrong somehow, looks like it would suck a ton of hot air out of the engine area. They say it increases power, but I would question that under real world situations, where the engine is used to sucking crisp winter air and now is pulling hot engine heat...
i removed the air box from the side cover and the plastic from the clutch cover. i installed a filter skin cover from an ole air filter from a quad racer and zip tied it aroung the intake opening of the box ehind the engine. worked great removed weight with now problems.

Hey djb, took my outer air box of, tied some prefilter material around the horn on the inside air box, relocated the sensor that goes on the outside air box close to the intake of the inner air box. Ran like crap from sucking in the warm air, have since put airbox back on, much better.

Any one tried the $200 duct from Specialty Sleds?

darn spendy, but looks like it would be the best option.

Free's up air space, brings in cold air, cooler clutches.

Also heard of one from Mountain Aire Motorsports in Evanston, WY. But have never seen it though.

RT VAL!

Thanks for the up.

It has not snowed here yet so I have been itching to wreck my sled in the garage instead of out of it.

I appreciate the advice as I have that 10 ton mustard bucket torn apart in the garage looking for ways to loose some weight.

Maybe I will stick to the Bowflex and Special K......

oh...and Red Stripe LIGHT!
I recently added the timbersled airbox mod and cs pipes, boondocker box. First ride yesterday Pinedale WY sunshine and fresh pow. I started with some box settings I found on here but it would hardly run. Maybe too lean and computer shutting it down all the time. So I went to much richer settings across the board - like +20-+25. It seemed to run real good all day long. Then on the way back (lower altitude, cooler) it ran like sh&% again. I think I am going to sh&%can the timbersled mod and put at least the inside box back on like awesometimes.
A sponcer on here ,Extremegraphic Moto Design, was working on one I saw on the Mach forum. Looked very nice. Would give you a link but not soo much on the computer technology.

Yes he emailed me some pics of there side panels and airbox delete. Looked awesome and prices were very reasonable. Seems like real good guys to deal with.
I am running the specialty sleds rt intake. I cracked my box last year and was getting belt dust all over the reeds. I decided to go his route and it was simple to install, dropped a 3-4 lbs, and is sweet. I can take some pics if you like. The only weight is the hose you have to use and that is minimal. So far I am very impressed. Power is right on.
idon't want to get off the subject but does anyone have a bog ?

If it is at about 5500rpm it is something to do with the programing and I have been told the new programing(early december release) will look after it. I have a new Rt with 97miles and it is doing it.It has been discused on here many times. My dealer had a quick fix for this problem...Just dont ride it at 5500RPM...LOL.
yah this is full throtle bog made me mad playing in 3 ft powder ready to burnnnnnnnnnn ?
The Bog at 4800 to 5500 is the rave system opening up, and the computer giving this horse some fuel........just hammer and hold on!!!!
