Hey guys, working on the mxz 700 project sled today and I'm almost ready ready to wrap up this project, but I'm having a really hard time finding a base gasket for the 700 here in Finland. What are the differences of the base gaskets for the 600 ho and the 700 (693). They seem almost identical judging by the pictures, but I can't seem to find any information verifying this. Would a 600 h.o gasket fit the 700? Are the bottom ends both identical? The 700 engine is from 2000 and the mxz base gasket is for a 03 600 ho.

Thanks in advance.

There were two 700’s in 2000. Sandcast crankcase using 8mm cylinder bolts 1999-2000. And the later diecast crankcase using 10mm bolts 2000-2004. 700 diecast engine is same bottom end as 600ho. You should be able to use a 600ho gasket. 800 gasket may work for you also but the hole for the cylinder skirt will be larger. I’ve trimmed a leftover 700 gasket to fit an 800 before.

Weird thing happened today while installing the top end.. Half of the head bolts were jamming after only a few turns and did not go in at all. Obviously did not want to force them so I Backed them out and removed the head again. Turns out the replacement cylinder I got did not want to accept the head bolts at all. First few threads feel fine and then it just kinda binds up. Wondering if cylinders come in different thread sizes or what? The same bolts work perfectly fine on the other cylinder...

Tried cleaning the threads out but still nothing.. Then I thought i'd try another 8mm bolt i had laying around and tried it.. well it went right in no prob.. tried it on the old cylinder and it worked there aswell.. so the random bolt I grabbed works on both cylinders but the original headbolts only work on the old one?? Gettin real confused here 😀 Are the headbolts badly stretched or something?

I doubt they are stretched. Never heard of that on any series 3 engine i have owned a couple of them and had them apart one being a 2003 legend 700.
