Is it possible for the rings on a 600HO with alot of miles on it to acutally wear the ring groove on the piston bigger?? Went to replace rings due to compression falling off and notice that there is alot play when the new ring is installed on the piston( up and Down) Is it possible the ring wore this groove bigger??
Any thoughts????

Yes the harder ring will wear the softer aluminum ring lands over time. There is maximum allowable spec for this (I don't know it off hand cuz my manual's in the shop). If you have high mileage pistons why aren't you replacing them while you have the engine apart anyhow?

ring clearance in the groove should not exceed .008" or 0.20mm
