I'm trying to plan out a trip next year to ride from WNY Southern Tier (Springville Area) to Tug Hill. I would like to stop for the night somewhere around the Canandaigua to Sodus Bay area. Does anyone know of a sled friendly motel or hotel on the trail we can stay at? If anyone has made that trip before I would really appreciate any tips, advice or how your ride was. Thanks.

Problem with that ride now is that there is a break in the trail in the finger lakes area just south of the thruway. This is the only trail connection that I know of.

And thanks for the message I received. Thought I would share in case anyone interested. There is an Americas Best Motel right off where trail ends at the Casino in Farmington that looks like a good choice. 6037 Rt. 96 Farmington NY.

That "break" in the trail isnt really new this year. It wasnt marked last year and unless you know the "trail" you would be getting lost without gps to keep you in the right direction of renegade trail following..

Thanks a lot for reposting the link! Awesome story and details of the trip. I'm sure I'm not the only one that's glad for that repost!

Otto, hope you enjoyed the thread. Boy what a difference a year has made, it's an absolute shame how little I rode this year. Before making your attempt I would do some serious research about the Port Gibson/Marion region. The scuttlebutt is that the section in question has transitioned from a "renegade, unofficial" trail, to a legit closed section. I certainly hope I didn't ruffle any feathers with my story last year. What I would look into is perhaps riding the side of the roads for that length, or even having someone meet you with a truck and trailer for a "portage" of sorts. If you have any other questions, or are looking for some "saddle-bagging" tips, feel free to PM me.

their are ways around ,local trails that have been ridden for years , keep in mind its a 2hr ride from Canandaigua to Sodus in great conditions non stop.I know I do it all the time , well not this year !!!.The problem is a year like this sets back trail development and club participation for a year or 2 .Ounce you get to Sodus its clear sailing to the Hill.

Was looking at the NYS web map, there are even more breaks in the trail in the Canindaigua area. This may not ever be possible again.

the problem I feel now 2 years of NO SNOWMOBILING south of thruway (and barely some north) really sets things back, club involvement ,membership , and really people just getting out of the sport all together. So it makes it tough to get excited about working /improving/progressing the trail network when u can't ride.Something that I would hope ,not being able to ride out of ur home happens ounce every 10 yrs give or take ,has happened 2 yrs in a row ,not good. I haven't plowed my driveway in 2 years !!

Agree. Locally we are seeing the same problems. Also don't see how long clubs can go getting funding when they can't use the money they get to actually groom. We need a real season next year or I think we will all be in a bit of trouble.

Each year i think it can't get worse and it does. One club here in the WNY are was only open for a total of three days this year. Dismal. Hopefully things get better, but with every season that gets worse, the more i think that the days of continuous snow from December to March (in WNY) are far behind us...........
