Rev seat on a CK3

My sled is pretty uncomfortable for me on long rides (I'm 6'2"). After riding some really bad trails last year my back was killing me. I rode a friends rev for a little while and it was much more comfortable than my 98 machz. Well, after some searching here, I found some pics of a rev seat on an older chassis and decided to give it a try. I still have to make a support to go under the seat in the middle and I'm trying to find an 03 rear lower panel with the brakelight to finish it all off. After buying a new seat and trunk cover off of ebay I'm in for $200 plus whatever the tail light panel costs. Much cheaper than the boss seat.

I've made some cardboard templates, that I'll transfer to plastic and attach to the stock rev seat frame. I'm bending up some aluminum bracing to hold the extra plastic on with and it will stretch down past the seat to bolt the front to the sides of the tunnel. I had to trim the front a little to match the tank better and trim the foam accordingly. When it's done, I'll have the stock seat cover modified for the extra panels and the cut at the tank. It sits about 2" to 3" higher and is a little more firm than the stock ck3 seat. I'll add some bar risers to compliment it.

I got the idea from this thread. http://www.dootalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...484&hl=rev+seat

So I can't any credit for the idea. Hopefully it will make this sled much more enjoyable to ride.

Looks good if it works, but for a few hundy more you could have a BOSS seat and be done.

I a BOSS on my old 00' Mach Z and it was awsome!!!

I'll use that few hundred I saved to buy a new track or some new skis

It should improve the ride some do to the progressive foam compared to the crummy foam that was stock. The height should also help out your 6' 2" frame but dont you think a suspention change would be in order first?
An SC-10ll will bolt right up............

I had considered a suspensions change. But, I'm trying to be a little cheap with this sled. If it's still a bad ride with all the things I'm changing (replacing worn out shocks, ad boivin links, rear spring spacers). I go buy a new rev.

I've been down that road, thats why a SClll sits under my CK-3, night and day.

I'm pretty much done with the seat. Just waiting on the 03 rev taillight and I still have to get the seat cover modified. It's very comfortable. I'm going to raise the handlebar 3" to go with it.

I did some figuring last night on parts to rebuild the sc-10 and It looks like it will only be about $100 more to get a used SC-10III. I'm still up in the air about what track to run. Thinking an unstudded 1.5" ripsaw for a little on and off trail use. I'm also going to add a set of precision skis. What is involved in putting a set of precision skis from a rev onto my ck3 with DSA front suspension? Will they bolt right or do I need to modify the mounts?
with you being 6'2" (Me too), do 4" risere with a pivot block, you wil be much happier, trust me, I already took my old Mach through and beyond what you are doing. If you are an aggresive rider, swap the stock bars out too and throw on a set of 440X race bars.

Give me your email and I will send you some pics of mine when I was done with everything, or look at Bengelp's avatore, that was my sled. You may want to look into getting longer travel shockd for the front too!!

Good luck with your project, should be pretty cool when you are done.

When I took the bars loose, 3" was about all I could get without extending the brake hose, but I didn't look at the routing.

Sent some pics, Look close at all the wiring, cables, etc, you should have enough to go 4".

In my mind there are two types of tuners out there

1) People who buy a mod that is specifc to make, model, year, and you know its going to fit ok and work good.

2) Pioneers, buying, swapping other sled parts to enhance there own, maybe it will work maybe it wont. Trial and error. But in the end there mods IN MY OPINION (everybody can have opinions) are the best, because it limits how many people can have it. Makes people wonder how did they do that? Jaws dropping on the trails. They didnt go out and just buy a part. They made there own. Custom made suspensions, seat conversions, MeanMike, rehm70, and I'm sure there are many many other people out there and I apoligize for not recognizing you: mad props for taking a risk and having it come out sweet. Good job.

And remember at all times---

Forgot to mention bengelp for taking poo shocks for a front end upgrade on the s-chassis. Very creative. Have to look more into that one

You are right....But also keep in mind the people who buy a bunch of pre made parts for a specific sled and actually have all of them work in harmony, especially when modifying a sled in one particular way that no one else would normally think of doing, example is my Mach that Bengelp now owns. I bought most off the shelf parts to add on to it, but also had to do a lot of modifications to make everything fit due to poor engineering.

Necessity is the mother of invention.

I've got more time than money and plenty of fab skills. I'll never pay $500 for a seat for a sled. There might be $100 at most in materials. I'm into this project for $235 and I've gained 2" of seat height, more trunk space and better seat foam, and I have about 3 hours of labor doing it. I should have some finished project pictures this weekend if I get the rear plastic part in.

Machz123- Got your pictures. Why did you sell your sled? How much better was the ride after you changed everything?
Had a suggestion for you. The rear end of the sled looks "cut off" Now it might look different when you add the last finishing touches to it. But what if you fabbed up a short tunnel extension to make it look a lil less "bunched" Again excellent work.

The ride was night and day different from a factory Mach. 1-3' moguls where no problem for the suspension to handle at high speed, and the new bars and risers really made it more comfortable to ride. Why I got rid of it was just simply I am an aggresive trail rider, I am tall like yourself and weigh about 240, so riding the Mach heavy for hrs on end still made me very tired. I have always wanted a 440 race sled, and after driving my brothers 04' 800 renegade made me want a REV even more. I had a chance to trade my sled for the 04' 440 I have now so I did it. I miss the acceleration and speed of the Mach, and it was pretty close to being the only one out there that had all the stuff I had done to it, but the trade off to the 440 was well worth it to me. I love the setup on the REV, and the way the race shocks work, it just suites me better.

Your sled will look sweet when it is done, and I agree, I would fab a little tunnel extension piece, and throw some 8" billets on the rear!!!

I hope this tides me over for this year because I really want a rev.

Everybody allways want to spend my money.

I've considered making a tunnel extension so I can put a rev tunnel bag on for more storage, but I'll wait and see what it looks like with the different plastic first. The 8" billet wheels have crossed my mind, but then I have to replace the front idlers with billets too and that's a big chunk of change. I would make them myself, but I don't have access to a nice lathe anymore.

Here is the finished product. The seat doesn't fit as snug in the front as I would have liked, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist and this is my first uphostery attempt.

I also did a little work with the stickers.
