Looking for a QUICK BREAKDOWN of the steps to follow when removing and disassembling a RER secondary (03 mxz 600HO) for spring replacement. Any info or warnings would be helpful...

Thanks bill, very helpful. Who makes/sells the cheapest spring tool for this? Any parts in there that wear out (i'm at 2500mi) and should be replaced while its open?
Make the tools, it's really simple. I made mine out of a piece of ready rod and wood. I think I have $6 into it.
Doo i need to open the chaincase before taking off the secondary? Won't the shaft just spin if i put a socket on the bolt and turn? Guess i'll find out the hard way tonite...

Just hold the brake lever when loosing the bolt. When you have it apart check the three ramps(shoes) that the helix rides on, cheap and easy to replace(the black ones are for forward, red for reverse). Check the large bushing the the outer part of the helix rides on. I would reconmend dealer change out if needed. Open the chain case(drain first!) and make sure everything is good in there and give it some fresh lube for happy chaincase!
Also check out the mountain section from a member here (ttabs under heading "News from the ttab mod shop") he has a breakdown and some tool ideas, also check out the 'Features' section(located at the top of the page and click on 'Tech Reports' also "Tech Tips and How To's" below the Vintage section for a breakdown. Have fun learning!
