I was wondering if anyone noticed any top end gains by removing the beavertail, less wind recistance? Did you find that you needed a bigger heat exchanger?

No advantage. In fact, I sometimes wonder if my sled hooks up a little better somehow because of the beaver tail. I am not sure what the reason is but I seem to hook up better than the non-beaver revs I have played with on the lake.

Cooling will be an issue especially for a lake rider. You will need to upgrade to the '04 heat exchanger. As for top end gains, the only way I could see it helping is if it reduced weight.

You'll be fine with the heat. If you have a 600 which I see you do dont worry about it, but if you have an 800 def. get the 04 cooler. If you want to be really safe with your motor add water wetter to it.
