Reed spacers with V Force?

1030 Views 14 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  05600sdi
I know everyone states thet you don't need reed spacers with the V force reeds on the 800 series III but is there any advantage to running with the spacers then with out? Only reason is i have some nice 1/2" spacers here that was used on the 03 Summit 800HO when i bought the engine.

The assumption that the VF reeds have spacers is only because the reed block stop is on the outside of the cylinder, this is not a spacer. If the engine, a HO that came with reed spacers, you need to have the spacers but not the .450" ones that came with the engine, you need to use the 1/4" spacers and the reason is so you can still obtain as much crankcase vloume and pick the airspeed up through the carbs, using the .450" stock spacers with the VF reeds can cause the carb float bouls to rub on the jackshaft where the 1/4" ones won't and the .450" spacers slow down the air flow throught the carbs. Hope this helps you. -- Bill

What about the 2005 800 P-Tek
Any thing with the thick reed spacers need to be changed to 1/4" to help the performance. -- Bill
Now i have to go look on my sled and see what a reed spacer looks like.
Does anyone know were to get a set of 1/4 inch spacers?

You guys DO realize Bill is speaking of the 1st gen VF-III's (same as stock HO reeds) with reed stops and NOT the 2nd gen VF-III's right? The second gen are shorter (by a 1/4" - funny eh?) and have no reed stops that block the intake ports so you do NOT use spacers with the new ones!!! DO A SEARCH - there are hundreds of posts on this. Adding reed spacers for the fun of it only reduces the carb signal!~

Have FUN!

Reed spacers do nothing but lose power on the DOO 800 twin...

IF you can get your reeds in the cylinder without spacers.. DO IT!! You cannot get the stock HO reeds in without a spacer... If using the stock Ho reeds use the thinnest possible spacer you can..

If ANY of the other reeds (like non HO reeds, not sure on V-force because I never use them.. Hmmm) fit without the use of a spacer.. put them in without the spacer!

Anyway.. there is no "real world" power to be had by reeds in this particular engine...IMHO...

There are better places to spend your $$ for performance

Kelsey
Kelsey...the reason for switching is that a ton of people got screwed by Doo with bad boots. They then switch to V3's to avoid the boots from coming apart. The Summit motors came with good boots and not the one piece ones that the Std REVs got as far as I can tell. The Summit motors seem to be V3 boots.

Why doesn't someone post pics of V3 Gen.1 vs Gen 2?
That should help everyone see the differences.
