Just put Cudney rings in my 04 at 1400 miles. Pistons were fine. He says the pistons are usually junk if you dont change the rings before 2k miles.
Even if I had to pay the 100 bucks for the rings, its a great investment. Besides the peace of mine and having better rings, my sled now hits 8k on the tach EVERY time I pin it. My stock rings weren't that bad, and it would only make rpm with no traction, otherwise it would usualy hit 7300-7500, with a Cudney clutch kit.
I've never changed rings before, and it was a pretty easy job with basic tools.
